The so-called Middle Ages

always inspired my imagination. As a teenager I even attended *gulp* Renaissance Festivals. There are photos, so I can’t deny it, anyway. What makes me cringe now isn’t the anachronistic costume, the hours spent learning to speak fake-Chaucer, or even the waste of half-eaten turkey legs; it pains me that I unthinkingly used the phrase medieval to include late antiquity! This month I’m learning how to clothe my historical imagination in the raiment of accessible scholarship with Medieval Myths and Mysteries—enjoy!
