"We ask the Producer to provide the first 15 minutes because we want all parties to agree on the project's direction. This is the opportunity to make sure both parties agree on major character voices, accents, pacing, tone, and pitch. The 15-minute upload offers a key check-in point, as this sample should be a representation of the final audio you will upload for the full production.

After an audiobook is submitted as complete, the project will be reviewed by our Quality Assurance team, who will ensure the audiobook meets the ACX Audio Submission Requirements.
Our team of quality assurance engineers reviews each title; if they find audio issues, they will reach out to request corrections. Titles that meet our Audio Submission Requirements and that are submitted with retail-ready cover art and product information will be posted for retail on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes, which can take up to 10 business days after they are submitted to ACX.
The retail audio sample used on Audible and Amazon is a short preview of your Audiobook. A great sample will show off your material and attract paying customers!
To pick a strong sample, follow these guidelines:
  • The sample must start with narration, not credits or music.
  • The sample must not contain any explicit material.
  • Select a compelling excerpt that you feel will do a good job of selling the book.
  • The sample should be anywhere from one to five minutes long.
  • Consider using the beginning of the book as your sample. It's often the best set-up and might be the simplest, most effective way to intrigue a listener.
  • If the book is erotic, please do your best to choose a clean but romantic excerpt.
The sample is chosen by the Rights Holder but uploaded by the Producer, so it is beneficial to work together on the selection.
Note: iTunes automatically uses the first five minutes of the book as their sample.
There are many factors that go into the audiobook approval process; but it usually takes around 10 business days, assuming that all audio, technical, and artwork meets our submission requirements.
Once an audiobook is approved by a Rights Holder it is sent to our QA Team who checks the complete audio for the technical specifications like; noise floor, volume, spacing, etc. This process usually takes 3-5 business days. If they find any concerns or missing items in the audio, the project will be unlocked and sent back to the Rights Holder and Producer to make the necessary changes and submit the title again once completed.
If the audio checks out with no issues, the QA Team will approve it and it will move along to be prepared for retail. The Metadata Team prepares the title for each retailer and sends the audio to Amazon, Audible, and iTunes for release. This last piece of the process usually takes around 7 business days.
The key to the speediest review and release? Ensure that all of your audio and artwork meets our specifications before submitting the title. If a title is unlocked for changes, the review process starts from the beginning upon re-approval.

Both the title and author(s) data listed on ACX is automatically pulled from the existing Amazon listing. If the data is off when you look at ACX, it is because that is how it read when you claimed it from Amazon. These can only be edited by the ACX team after an audiobook is submitted as complete. When the title is completed, please email the new name to request the change using the email channel below.

Changing the distribution rights to your Audiobook depends on the payment and distribution options you selected. Email us using the channel below to request changes to your distribution agreement.
In order to transition the title, we will need the new Rights Holder to have an ACX account registered as a Rights Holder (author, publisher, or agent), with tax information validated on the account. Submit the information below via the form on the next page, from the email addresses associated with your accounts.
If you have a rights reversion notice that you can provide, that would be ideal as well. The email will need to include the following information from both parties:
  • Title of Book(s):
  • Original Rights Holder Name:
  • Original Rights Holder Email Address for ACX Account:
  • New Rights Holder Name:
  • New Rights Holder Email Address for ACX Account:
  • Request:
Once received by both parties, our teams will begin the process of moving the titles to the new account. Please understand that this change requires significant work on our end. Although we don't have an estimated timeline available for its resolution, we will work to make the changes as quickly as possible.
"Payments are usually sent in the last week of the month following the end of the billing period. Please keep in mind that Audible will only send payment if the earnings for a given month are greater than $10.00. In the event that less than $10.00 is earned, the balance will carry over to the following month.
If you continue to earn less than $10.00 in an individual month, the balance will carry over until you have earned $50.00; then payment will be sent for the cumulative balance.
For more information on payments, please click here."
Promo codes are available to ACX users in good standing upon request. Codes will only be sent to the Rights Holder of the audiobook who select exclusive distribution, and the narrator if the book was done through a Royalty Share deal.
Narrators who produce an Audiobook through ACX can have AFTRA H&R contributions made on their earnings. However, not all projects will qualify.
To qualify for contributions, the project must be either a Pay For Production deal that pays $250 per finished hour or more.
If your project qualifies, and you want AFTRA H&R contributions made on your behalf on your earnings, simply click the button Accept with AFTRA H&R when you accept an Offer to produce an Audiobook. Contributions based on your earnings will then be sent to the AFTRA H&R Funds. If there is a stipend associated with the project, you will need to select that contributions should be made for that stipend payment within the invoice.
Please see the ACX Payment Conditions for Certain Producers for complete terms.
If you need to dissolve a contract before the audiobook has been published for sale, this can be done if all parties mutually agree to the end the agreement. Each party would have to send a request to end production by contacting us below.

Audible attempts to apply the Whispersync for Voice feature to all eligible books as they become available. Usually, this is approximately 30 business days after the title releases. Normal processing times vary, and titles that fail to pass our sync quality standards experience longer processing times while we investigate the issue.
Once your eligible title goes live it will be added to the queue of titles awaiting processing, in which we sync the matching Kindle book to your Audiobook. There are a number of reasons why your title may not already be enabled, including but not limited to technical challenges and discrepancies between the Kindle and Audiobook content.
Note: At this time, audiobooks purchased through Amazon.ca are not eligible for the Whispersync for Voice program.
While we cannot guarantee that your book will be enabled for Whispersync for Voice, you may send a request to our processing team for more information by emailing us below.
For more information on Whispersync for Voice, please visit our Help Center.
