Plot
U.S. Marine Logan Thibault discovers a photograph of a smiling young woman during his tour in Iraq. He keeps the photo, which seems to bring him luck, helping him survive deadly combat and win at poker. After returning home to Colorado, Logan can't stop thinking about the woman in the picture and decides to search for her, believing she holds the key to his destiny.
Logan's journey leads him to Hampton, North Carolina, where he meets Elizabeth Green, a divorced mother with a young son named Ben. Feeling an instant connection with Elizabeth, Logan keeps the story of the photograph a secret. He finds work at the local dog kennel run by Elizabeth's grandmother and begins to develop a close relationship with Elizabeth and Ben.
As Logan and Elizabeth's romance blossoms, complications arise in the form of Elizabeth's ex-husband, Keith Clayton, who is also the local deputy sheriff. Keith becomes increasingly jealous and suspicious of Logan, going so far as to break into Logan's home in search of evidence against him. Meanwhile, Logan struggles with whether to reveal the truth about the photograph to Elizabeth.
The story reaches its climax during a severe storm that causes flooding in the area. When Ben runs away to his treehouse, which has become unstable due to the weather, Keith and Logan both rush to save him. In a dramatic rescue attempt, Keith is fatally injured, while Logan manages to save Ben with the help of his dog, Zeus.
