About the Author

James Redfield is an American author best known for his international bestseller The Celestine Prophecy. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Redfield studied Eastern philosophies and sociology at Auburn University before obtaining a master's degree in counseling. He spent over 15 years working as a therapist for abused adolescents, during which time he became interested in human potential and psychic phenomena.

In 1989, Redfield left his therapy practice to focus on writing full-time. He self-published The Celestine Prophecy in 1992, which quickly gained traction among readers and booksellers. Warner Books acquired the rights and published the hardcover edition in 1993, propelling the novel to the top of the New York Times bestseller list. 

Redfield's literary career continued to flourish with sequels and companion books to The Celestine Prophecy, including The Tenth Insight: Holding the Vision and The Secret of Shambhala: In Search of the Eleventh Insight. He also penned nonfiction works exploring spiritual awareness and personal evolution. In 2006, Redfield co-wrote and produced a film adaptation of The Celestine Prophecy, further expanding the reach of his spiritual concepts. His most recent novel, The Twelfth Insight: The Hour of Decision, published in 2011.

Beyond his writing, Redfield is active in environmental conservation efforts and co-founded the Global Prayer Project with his wife, Salle.
