Plot
Assistant to the Villain follows Evangelina "Evie" Sage as she gets drawn into the quirky and dangerous world of Trystan Maverine, aka The Villain, the most feared figure in Rennedawn. After a failed job search, Evie encounters Trystan in a forest. Impressed by her wit, Trystan offers her a job at his Massacre Manor. Despite her apprehension, Evie takes the position to support her family. Her lively nature creates an interesting dynamic with Trystan. She joins a staff filled with gossip, unique colleagues, and unexpected friendships, particularly with Blade, a dragon trainer, and Tati, a healer.
Months later, Evie and Trystan find a spy within the manor leaking information to King Benedict, Trystan's enemy. Together, they try to uncover the mole, strengthening their professional relationship. They face family conflicts and challenges from law enforcers, especially the Valiant Guardsmen. The situation intensifies when Evie finds evidence against Blade, leading to uncertainty about his loyalty. She faces a moral dilemma and resigns after a confrontation with Trystan. Her departure disrupts operations, prompting Trystan to realize her importance and work to get her back.
After returning to the office, Evie continues investigating and discovers a plot by her former employer, a blacksmith who had previously harmed her. During a crucial event organized by Trystan's father, Evie bravely fights deadly creatures known as guvres, preserving Trystan's anonymity when his father is mistakenly captured as the villain.
Further revelations lead to identifying Evie's estranged father as the true traitor, who took advantage of their family relationship to deceive. This sets the stage for a showdown where Evie confronts personal vendettas, signaling her growth. The story ends on a cliffhanger, with Evie vowing to free the imprisoned Trystan, deepening her commitment to him and her evolving courage.
