Plot
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas begins three months after A Court of Thorns and Roses. Feyre Archeron returns to the Spring Court but struggles with memories of past sacrifices. Her tension with Tamlin grows due to his overprotective nature and the absence of a mating bond. This reaches a peak at their wedding when she calls for help. Rhysand, the High Lord of the Night Court, responds by invoking a pact that requires Feyre to stay with him one week each month.
In the Night Court, Feyre experiences a sense of freedom. Rhysand encourages her to explore her powers granted by the High Lords who revived her. Unlike with Tamlin, she receives support to develop her abilities. In this environment, Feyre finds companionship with Rhysand's Inner Circle: Mor, Cassian, Azriel, and Amren.
Tensions rise with the threat from the King of Hybern, who plans to dismantle the barrier between Fae and humans. Feyre and Rhysand focus on retrieving the Book of Breathings to counter the King’s weapon, the Cauldron. Feyre proves her readiness in the Weaver's lair and later secures one half of the book from the Summer Court with Amren.
Feyre faces further challenges during a meeting with mortal queens who resist aiding them. One queen secretly passes the other half of the book with a warning. Discovering that Feyre and Rhysand are soulmates complicates her emotions, but she accepts the bond, gaining strength.
War looms as Hybern launches a surprise attack on Velaris with help from the mortal queens. Feyre's group attempts to disable the Cauldron in Hybern, but a trap reveals Tamlin’s alliance with Hybern to capture Feyre.
The situation worsens when Feyre's sisters are forced to become Fae. In a strategic move, Feyre feigns allegiance to Tamlin and the King to aid her friends' escape. Unbeknownst to her adversaries, she remains the High Lady of the Night Court, prepared to face the forthcoming battle with Rhysand.
