Ronald G. Shafer was a reporter and editor for the Wall Street Journal for 38 years, serving as the Washington Political Features Editor and writing the page-one column the Washington Wire. He currently writes free-lance history articles for the Retropolis column of the Washington Post. His new paperback book book, "A Half-Naked George Washington. And Other True Tales From History" is a collection of 35 of his Retropolis columns focusing on such current issues as removing statues such as a scandalous statue of George Washington in a toga that Congress kicked out in 1843. Ron Shafer now lives in Williamsburg, Va. with his wife Mary Rogers, co-founder of the Abrakadoodle art education for children franchise.. He is a native of Columbus, Ohio, and a graduate of Ohio State University. Ron is the author of several books. They include "Breaking News All Over Again," "The Carnival Campaign. How The Rollicking 1840 Campaign of Tippecanoe and Tyler Too Changed Presidential Elections Forever," and "When the Dodgers Were Bridegrooms: Gunner McGunnigle And Brooklyn's Back To Back Pennants of 1889 and 1890." Brooklyn manager William "Gunner" McGunnigle was the great-grandfather of Ron's wife, Mary Rogers. Ron also co-authored with Michael Sumichrast the best-selling book, "The Complete Book of Home Buying."
