Born in Egypt, Michael M. Meguid spent his early childhood in Egypt, Germany, and England, and attended University College Hospital Medical School in London followed by a Surgical Residency at Harvard Medical School. A surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgery, he studied human nutrition at MIT to benefit cancer patients and was awarded a Ph.D. He is the recipient of numerous national and international honors. In addition to his demanding operative schedule, he ran a research laboratory which was funded by the National Institutes of Health for twenty-five years, and his research has won awards and continues to be cited. Michael M. Meguid is a Professor Emeritus of Surgery, Nutrition, and Neuroscience, Syracuse, NY, and Editor Emeritus of Nutrition: The International Journal of Applied and Basic Nutritional Sciences. On his retirement, he earned an MFA from Bennington Writing Seminars in Vermont and attended workshops at Queens University of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Non-fiction Seminars at Goucher College, Maryland. He is a member of several major writer's Associations and VP of Marco Island Writers where he teaches. Meguid's short stories have been published in The Bennington Review, Stone Canoe, Columbia Medical Review, and Hektoen International. He has given readings in Florida and London, and has a thirty-episode podcast entitles Roots & Branches currently subscribed in thirty-eight countries. Meguid reads, writes, and lives on Marco Island, Florida with his four-legged muse, Lucy. Roots & Branches: A Family Saga Like No Other is the first in a series of biographical stories. The sequels Mastering the Knife: Seeking Identity and Finding Belonging and A Surgeon's Tale will be released in 2021.
