As a child I loved fables and fairytales. But none of the stories I read were reflective of the tales my Grandmother Felicia told. She instilled in me a deep love of the oral tradition of our culture and heritage. This love story is one of my favourites and reminds me of the time we shared together. My grandmother did not have the opportunity to go to school but she was bright, intelligent and creative. The Ugly Coat is my tribute to my grandmother, our cocoa payol heritage, and a part of the legacy she left behind. I hope that you, reader, love it as much as I do.
