B. C. Schiller

Barbara and Christian Schiller live and work in Linz, Austria, in the heart of Europe. As B.C. Schiller, they write brutal tense thrillers, which both carry away and captivate the reader. The crucial issue is taking the reader on an emotional journey and to seduce the reader to such an extent, experiencing at first hand the lust and frustration, the joy and the suffering of the main protagonists. Long before B.C. Schiller had started to write; reading thrillers and crime stories was B.C. Schiller's favorite pastime. Then on holiday they started drafting their own tense stories just for the fun of it. Of course it was then but a logical step to begin writing thrillers as a profession. Both of them who own an advertising agency know only too well that, in addition to creativity, writing requires a lot of very hard work as only diligence and discipline can lead to success.

Barbara Schiller worked for many years as a marketing agent for companies in Central Europe. Her, at times adventurous, experiences in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet States often provide background information for the stories. Barbara Schiller also is inspired with ideas for the thrillers during intensive training with their Rhodesian Ridgeback, Jabali; in addition to writing, dog training is her passion.

For Christian Schiller writing was always in the foreground. He is author of several books and compelling radio features on criminal and disputed authors such as Jean Genet, Henry Miller or William Burroughs. For these radio features he interviewed, among others, the Austrian serial killer, Jack Unterweger. In this interview it became quite apparent that serial killers lack any feeling of empathy, they are indifferent to their victims. All that counts is the buzz it gives them.

All the experiences of Barbara and Christian Schiller have resulted in B C Schiller writing brutal tense thrillers, painting a dark picture of society today in which the police must work on the fringes of legality to stamp out evil. Along with the strong emotional characters, the Central European countries with their oligarchs and corrupt systems play an important role because, since the opening up of Eastern Europe, Central Europe is become increasingly confronted with criminal gangs and the tragic fate of illegal immigrants. These are the elements forming the basis for tense story lines which B.C. Schiller conceive in night-long conversations over music and a glass of wine in their local Greek restaurant looking out over the Danube River.
