A dark and twisted cowboy romance like no other, one that will grab your attention and hold it hostage the entire time. This is my first experience, I mean book, written by Leila James and Shauna Mairéad, and consider me intrigued, so it definitely won’t be my last. I enjoyed their writing style, and their character development and world-building were fantastic. Sage Everett has a lot on her plate, and the men in her life were complete losers, a father who was never the same after the passing of her brother and then the leaving of her mother, a perverse ranch hand and a jerk of a boyfriend who would give her a hard time for working at a bar and wearing a certain attire. She did not know it yet, but there was someone who watched her from afar, and always looked out for her, Kade, a fallen angel, a dark angel and her savior, who would do what it took to keep her safe and happy. Kade grew up on the neighboring ranch, but their families had a falling out after her brother passed away, along with his sister. That did not stop his obsession with her or doing what he had to do to rid the vermin out of her life. Kade had a unique outlook on life and death, and his wit and way with words, all darkly humorous, added a lot to his character, but there was more to him, fiercely protective and he knew what he wanted. Sage, despite the crap she had to deal with, rolled with it, but it was worsening, especially after stumbling on something she should never have seen and could not unsee. I thought Kade and Sage were great together and for each other and loved watching their relationship morph into something so much more. There is never a dull moment in this book, a morally gray and killer of a story that has the perfect balance of drama, angst, twists and turns, thrilling horror or maybe justice served, heartfelt emotions and a meant-to-be romance like no other. Shout out to Grandma Jo, her wisdom, experience and know-how, and we need to know how she knows. Leila James and Shauna Mairéad, thank you for this terrific story and wild ride.

🎧📚🎧  Ryan Lee Dunlap and Harlow Wilde were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, understanding who they were portraying, giving each a voice that was fitting and believable. Dunlap killed it as Kade, grasping every aspect of his personality, from his possessive and protective side to cool, calm and ruthless side. Wilde was just as amazing with showcasing Sage’s personality, from her vulnerabilities to her strength and determination. Both were fantastic at performing the roles of the side/secondary characters too. Dunlap and Wilde were a fantastic pairing, with voices and talent that complemented each other and an entertaining performance that took the story to another level, and kept you hooked the entire time.

Yes, this is exactly the kind of listen I love. Morally grey, even cringing at times, I was hooked on the story and loved every minute. Kade is obsessed with Sage. She has always been off limits, their familes' are not exactly friends. But that doesn't stop him from coming to her aid when her boyfriend laid a hand on her. Willing to do anything for her, he keeps popping up at the most opportune times. The chemistry off the charts, these two are meant to be, his brothers and grandmother there for her and John Cena moments kept the suspense high and exciting. I could not get enough, listening straight through just to hear what would happen next. This is a fantastic start to the series and I cannot wait to hear the next in the series.

Making the story even better is the combination of Ryan Lee Dunlap and Harlow Wilde narrating it! These two delve into their characters head first, find the sound and keep the heightened feelings moving through the entire story. They are fabulous together and made this listen amazing.

A possessive cowboy ready to kill for her? Sign me up! As if I wasn't hooked already, when the narrators started reading the trigger warnings with bits of humor sprinkled in I knew this book was absolutely for me!

This story starts right off with a punch to the gut, but the way that Kade immediately steps in to protect Sage had my attention right away. Not only does he take out the trash, he ensures that she feels safe, taken care of and protected and who doesn't want that? The fierce protectiveness that Kade shows to Sage is just perfect and is exactly what she needed.

Their story is a bit savage, a lot unconventional, but dang was it perfect for them. I loved all of the other characters from Kade's brother to their grandma who had me giggling. When it comes down to business, this family gets it done.

The audiobook narration was so perfect for this story and I absolutely loved the way that Harlow Wildle and Ryan Lee Dunlap brought this story to life bringing levity to the dark details in a way that was compelling, interesting, and so enjoyable. Harlow was perfect as Sage bringing out her strength, her fears, and the perfect way she fell for Kade. Ryan Lee Dunlap voiced this story with the perfect hint of small town, southern charm while also being darkly obsessive, strong, and perfectly unhinged when it came time to protect what was his. Together, they were exceptional.
