Publisher's summary

The Summer Court is nothing like Sebastian remembers. The oppressed lower classes are drained of their magick, and around every corner political intrigues threaten an already unstable regime. Sebastian's only hope of surviving the Court and bringing home Prince Lyne's traitorous brother lies with Duine, a magickless Unseelie servant desperate to win his freedom. A servant for whom Sebastian, an estranged Seelie royal himself, is developing a dangerous and deepening affection.

But behind the mask Duine wears are secrets as dangerous as what's smoldering between them. And the more Duine helps Sebastian navigate Court life, the more it becomes clear the servant is not who he appears to be. How he came to be the whipping boy of one of the most powerful and corrupt faeries in the Summer Court is a truth Sebastian is determined to uncover, even if it puts him at odds with the very people who can lead him to the missing Unseelie prince.

When a powerful enemy steps from the shadows, Sebastian must choose: complete the mission and earn his place among the Unseelie who took him in, or risk his very life to ensure freedom for the man he loves.

Contains mature themes.

Holy Aching Heart Strings Batman

Great Book, I liked how the author transformed the characters! In all honesty I didn't know what to expect reading this, and I was a little sad when I thought the story was over for the main duo of the previous book. I am very glad this carries the story through and helps complete the narrative.

Wonderful

I enjoyed the first book but this one was masterful! I couldn’t stop listening! The slow burn of a new love and remaking of old characters was done so perfectly it was an absolute joy to experience and one I didn’t want to end- I’m waiting on the edge of my seat for the next book!

great story great performance.

it's good. but in this book the romance isn't very intense and the two protagonists often feel like very weak characters who disappoint the reader by always being the victim of the villains. Instead of breaking out some badass magic and saving the day they let most of everyone get slaughtered. Kind of makes them hard to like. Pretty much the total opposite of the protagonists of the previous book who managed to be vulnerable yet still pull off some badassery on a regular basis. Seb and Slanje just come off as a disappointment. You keep waiting for them to save everyone, then tons of people die and then everything goes to crap and then the book is over. Even the romance was ho hum. It felt like it never moved past the crush stage. I've loved food I've eaten more than those two seem to care about each other. The intensity and passion just weren't there.

Uhhhhh

Very good story, really good plot and a marvelous continuation from the first book. However, the ending did not feel as thought out as it could've been.

For the last 2/3 hours of the book, it felt very much like a plot option used to best lead into book 3 and the series overall plot. Which isn't a bad thing, but I feel like this book's story was sacrificed because of it.

The couple deserved a better ending than what came here. Yeah, it wasn't a cruel one and they came out strong, but I felt like Seb character and story -that was built up so we'll throughout the book - was all sacrificed to make book 3 work.

So that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, because of the ending. The narration was perfect as always.

Go get it!

I dare to say that I liked this book even more the first one! The story is excellent. My only complaint is that the narrator changed the pronunciation of a few words throughout the story. Like, what started out as “slu-ah” changed to “slower” which really confused me the first couple times I heard it, and that wasn’t the only word that changed, one of them being one of the main characters. It was slightly annoying, but not enough to make me dislike the book or stop me from downloading book 3 right away.

Worst audio mixing I've heard so far.

Whoever the audio engineer was on this book should go back to school and learn how to control audio levels. I couldn't get past chapter 3 as I was constantly adjusting the audio levels. What a waste of money. The story does sound interesting though. By the was, I am a retired engineer with several years experience in audio production.
