On the upside, if you bump up the AI reading speed to 1.2-1.3, it’s usually not bad and you mostly get used to it really fast. However, there are also way too many times that the moment should be steamy, tense, or raging, and the AI flubs it so bad that you just can’t help bust burst into laughter. It’s unfortunate because the story is REALLY good as long as you aren’t someone who gets hung up on a TON of bdsm that veers straight into varying degrees of violent grape and a level of sadism that comes too close to shattering any premise of love between the abuser and abused. 99% of the time, such things don’t bother me in any way at all, but the steady accumulation over chapter after chapter, I found myself fully in a dark place mentally that threatened to blacken my emotions entirely. The physical abuse was fine, but the mental and emotional abuse was a LOT. Amazingly, the author managed to pull me back out of the darkness at the last moment, just before I was prepared to stop the audio and delete the book. Bravo at the final balancing act, author! It ended up being so good that I literally shouted in anger when it suddenly ended at the most extreme cliffhanger imaginable. Imagine my delight when I got back to a WiFi connection and discovered that there are 3 parts to each volume 🥳 Praise Jupiter! or maybe I shouldn’t praise her… can’t wait to find out…
