Where does Slave Girl of Gor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Since my marriage has turned D/s, I looked for this book. Yes, it's kind of cheesy fantasy, and really -- Goreans have the ability of interplanetary space travel, but they ride around on birds and fight with swords and knives? But don't let pesky details clutter your guilty pleasures here. John Norman (aka Lange) has some pretty good psychological insights on submissive's emotions and libido (I know I'm not supposed to think that, the Cambridge thought police are on their way, no worries). I've bookmarked a number of great quotes.

What did you like best about this story?

The psychological insights regarding female submission. The guilty erotic pleasure.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Most of the performance was okay, but there are a number of places that feel chopped up or overdubbed and disturb the flow.

There isn't much of a plot, but that isn't really the point of this book. It's about following Judy's situation as a slave girl on Gor and experiencing her struggles with her. Despite the book being so long it's a small-scale story and can easily be broken up into a dozen stories about her various adventures and dramas. Despite its somewhat episodic nature, there are unifying threads that continue through the book, mostly through her relationships to other characters who are reoccurring in her life. Read if you want to get in the head of a slave girl of Gor.

This book was with difficult to attached to it first. Cletus is a bit annoying but winsome in the end. The plot seemed to relax and get to quality when Bosk of Port Carr showed up. Tarl Cabbert/Bostreally is his best character. I find it really funny what he could get away with in a book written in the 70s.

The vocal acting turned this from simply another in the series (whatever qualities of relative good any of which might have individually or not) into a legitimate, organic and vulnerable expression of the human condition. Joy Learner invested in the characters, most especially the protagonist and delivered a nuanced and articulate performance.

Why is this woman not doing more with audible beyond this single book?

To be sure audible has a handful of really talented narrators ... but not so many that they don't need more of Joy Learner. Serious skills vocally and dramatically....

Not for nothing -- I make my living on the stage. Just my opinion.
