Reese:

My life hasn't been easy. At age 11, my parents and two younger siblings were murdered and I went to live with my grandmother. At age 18, I broke up with my boyfriend of almost one year because he wasn't who I thought he was. He further proved that when he put his hands on me. Two weeks later, my grandmother died. I moved to a new town with my last living relative, my older brother, Carbon, to finish my senior year of high school at Croftridge High.

Then, I met Duke Jackson. One decision changed my life forever.

Duke:

My life was in a good place. My sister was happy and healthy and I had my club. I couldn't ask for more, or so I thought.

The night I ran into Reese Walker, I realized I could ask for more. I wanted more, and it was her.

I almost had her, but I messed up and she walked away. I was angry and hurt, so I let her go, until the night she came crashing back into my life. Secrets were exposed and ghosts from the pasts resurfaced, but I refused to let her walk away from me a second time without a fight.

Contains mature themes.

(Duke & Reese) Triggers: domestic abuse, sexual assault, kidnapping. Reese is the friend who sent Ember to the MC in the previous book. She's also a present character in that book. This story is hers while also explaining why she began to shut Ember out and close everyone off. Duke is the club’s SAA and in the past he was checking out a party when he noticed his brother's sister dressed to kill. He takes her home and they end up hooking up. After a couple of time jumps, Duke gets a call and finds out Reese is missing. Now the club is on a mission to find her, keep her safe and find out who is trying to kill her. This series is non stop drama and I am here for it. on top of that the plot twists are in rare form this book… even one that will help connect the cliffhanger that is in Ember's story. OMG… I can't wait to read the next book ..

more plot twists...m

Duke is the MMC, and a very good guy, but Phoenix is the hero here. He jumps in and helps everyone all the time. The problems the main characters had were understandable from both sides. It seemed like there were bad guys around every corner. I did, though, get tired of "my son this and my son that", he has a name. It's a good story and Mr. Duran is a dream to listen to.

The second book in the Blackwing MC series, Duke, adds one of my all-time favorite romance tropes into the mix: the secret baby, and it absolutely worked for me. As set up in the first book (Dash), Duke is injured during earlier events, and there are already subtle hints dropped about a prior connection between Duke and Reese. Those breadcrumbs pay off here in a big way. Through a painful mix of miscommunication and misguided assumptions on both sides, Duke is blindsided by a phone call from a daycare informing him that Reese hasn’t picked up their so, and if someone doesn’t arrive within 30 minutes, social services will be contacted.

Cue the record scratch. Duke had no idea he had a son!

So now we have the delicious chaos of a secret child, an emergency custody situation, and the looming question: what happened to Reese? This storyline pulled me in hard. The emotional stakes felt higher, the conflict more personal, and the payoff more satisfying.

As I mentioned in my review of the first book, I binged this entire series over the holidays and am reviewing them together with individual highlights. Having listened to the whole series before writing these reviews, I can confidently say: this is one of my favorite books in the series. I actually enjoyed Duke more than Dash. What really makes this series shine is the brotherhood of the Blackwings MC. I genuinely love these guys- their loyalty, their banter, and the way they rally when it matters. Each book deepens the sense of found family, and Duke is a standout example of that dynamic. From an audiobook perspective, this one was a win across the board. I’m primarily an audiobook listener, and the narration was fantastic. And I’ll say it again: you cannot get better than Troy Duran as a male narrator. His voice brings the grit, emotion, and intensity that MC romances demand.

Final thoughts:
While these books can be read as standalones, I strongly recommend listening or reading them in order to get the full experience. The background, character development, and emotional arcs hit so much harder that way. If you love MC romance and secret baby tropes, Duke is an absolute must, and for me, it raised the bar for the rest of the series. 🏍️🔥👶
