Night lasts a thousand hours. Forty sleeps - an endless desert of time when no one cares what happens to you until daytime.

Helene has given up. Only concern for her sister's grave medical condition tethers her to the world she dreams of escaping through death. If only she could bring herself to end it.

Caught out at night getting medicine for her sister, Helene is captured and taken as a slave for Gabriel, the mysterious ruler of the city.

“Helene, I will take your struggle away. I will bring you back to life.”

So good!

I love this book, it’s one of my favorites. Listening to it in audio form was magical and Addison Barnes was awesome, first time I listened to a book she narrated was Trust Game by Kitty Thomas. Love this author and narrator!

Brilliant

I loved this unique story. Helene and Gabriel are an interesting pair. The blend of so many different elements lead to a story that kept me enthralled the whole way through.

Such a great story

I loved the theme of this story. Once you start, your not going to want to stop listening to it because it really draws you in. I love Helene (the main character) as equally as I loved Gabriel (the villain?). The characters are very 3D with a lot of depth. I’d recommend this book to everyone who loves dark romance (not that dark).

Sinfully hot!!!

I really enjoyed listening to Dark Night of the Soul. Kitty was right when she said it gave you the purge meet vampire feel. The way their world works with night lasting 1,000 hours and not very safe to be out in. Helene was taken right when day turned to night and she didn't fight it. Gabriel found it odd that Helene wasn't like other humans who were brought there against their will. She was a damaged soul in need of saving and little did she know he was her savior. Gabriel and Helene were a perfect match for each other. The chemistry between these two ignited and no one could come between that. I highly recommend listening or reading this book!!

Love It!

"Dark Night of the Soul" is one of my all-time favorite books, so when I found out it was being released to audible I knew I had to have it. I was not disappointed. The narrator is perfect and the story, as always, is enthralling. Definitely an audiobook I'll be listening to over and over again.

One of Kitty’s best books

I love this story, it’s a dystopian mindfu**. You have a human world that is a shadow of its current self, with days and nights that last 1000 hours. Daytime is normal and routine, but nighttime is a period of “might makes right.” Crime and lawlessness rule, and to stay safe, you need to protect your home and those you love. This is the story of Helene, who gets trapped out, when her medically fragile sister discovers she doesn’t have enough medication to last the night. Not all is as it seems, and humans have no idea of the world they actually live in and the magnitude of the dangers that could befall them. This isn’t a romance as much as a dark story that has a romantic line as part of the larger story.
The narrator does a good job imbuing emotion and tone in her reading, and doesn’t distract from the story.

Dark Night of the Soul

I just listened to Dark Night of the Soul on Audible as well as followed the story via whispersync. I love doing this because as much as I love to listen to my books. I like to follow along with the written version too.

Helene’s sister Simone has seizures and needs medicine to keep the seizures at bay. She was going to run out of the medicine before light. Night is when bad things happen but what was Helene to do. She needed to go out to get Simone’s life saving meds. And, bad things happen. Helene is taken, gets rescued only to find out that she has been taken again. She is then given to Gabriel, “the mysterious ruler of the city”. What’s to become of her and more importantly her sister, Simone?

Helene goes from silent to sassy. Gabriel strikes a deal with Helene. Her cooperation so Simone will get her very important medication.

I mostly listen on my Kindle using the “text to speech” feature. That said, it isn’t the best way to listen to a book. I have gotten used to it and can mainly know that there will be mispronounced words. It is of course WAY better to be able to listen to a human reading the story. It is a treat when I listen to a human narrator! There are actually inflections and you can feel the angst. It is palpable at times.

I really enjoyed the audible version narrated by Addison Barnes. This is the first book that I have listened to by this narrator but not the first book written by Kitty Thomas! I love her writing.

Day and Night

This book was great. I loved Helene and how she was done with the messed up world that she was born into but she still can't get rid of her duty to care for her sister. She gets caught out after dark where laws no longer apply and she's unable to return to her sister with her medication. She gets caught by Gabriel and she ends up at his estate where she learns more about the world. This was a very interesting book with an interesting world that you kind of wish you knew just little more about. Seeing Helene and Gabriel only gives a small glimpse at what their world is like. It's a dark read and so good.

The narration
Addison Barnes was a good narrator. This is the first time I think that I've listened to a book narrated from her and it was good. She does all the characters very well and makes the story believable.
