Publisher's summary

It wasn’t too long ago that I would have told you I was too smart to fall for the friends-with-benefits okie doke. I would have said it was a setup that was doomed to fail each and every time. I had friends who had been there, done that, and got the keyed car and broken windows to prove it. I didn’t need to experience it for myself to know that I was good on that. That’s what I would have said before if anyone wanted to know my opinion. In a way, I still thought like that, except....

I’d known Aisha since I was 13 years old and if you would have asked me, I would have said I knew her pretty well. That couldn’t have been further from the truth, and when she revealed some things to me - things I had somehow missed over all these years - I found myself uttering words I never thought I’d say. It was just an agreement. You could almost call it a selfless act on my part. I was just being a good friend.

The thing was, I forgot who drew the lines in the sand and before long I found myself caught up in the more-than-friendly benefits with my very good friend.

Author’s Note: This is short, steamy listen featuring explicit language and situations. If either of those offend you, this might not be the story for you.

Short & Sweet

This was short and sweet. I love the characters and the narration was great. I could listen to Emmanuel Ingram voice until the end of time. Can’t wait to listen to book 2❤️

FIVE FREAKING STARS!!!

Okay, no cap—this is THE BEST short story I’ve listened to on here! There’s a certain way you have to tell the story in a shorter novel, I think, to get to the romantic end everyone’s looking for without over-relying on sex scenes or forcing how the couple evolves. In my opinion, this story struck that balance PERFECTLY! Great writing, compelling storyline, funny dialogue...and of course, Emmanuel’s narration was *chef’s kiss* (and getting better, it seems!)

Definitely hope Chencia has more to give us in the future—they’ve got a new fan in me! 😁

For the win!!!! 🙌🏽🔥

This is my first work from Ms. Higgins and LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, my girl SLA-A-A-YED this novella. Emmanuel Ingram was complete perfection as Shad, he had me hooked with House’s Should’ve Been. Such great writing, such talented narration! Whew!

OK Benefriends!!!

I'm not just giving this book 5stars because my name is in it, although that was so dope to see/hear. my name is NEVER in the books I read. I enjoyed this short sexy story and was disappointed when it was over.

Friends with Benefits Never Work

The friends to lovers trope can come off a “corny” however in this read it is far from the yellow grain that doesn't digest well. The involvement of attempting to be friends with benefits always ends in disaster … or does it? This read explores the highs and lows of trying this mess.

In this read we met the hero, Shad, and the heroine, Aisha, who are a part of a bigger friend group - Vick, Darwin, Shad, Monie, Lisette, and Aisha - that have all been friends for 13years going back to puberty days. These folks are tight meeting up every second Saturday to share a meal and some giggles it appears.

At one of these meetups Shad invites Aisha to attend a work event with him where a cover band performs 90s R&B hits. Now listen I am wondering if this is a thing cause I would love to go to a concert like this 90s R&B is the music of my youth and gives me all the feels to this day!! It appears that I am not alone in that cause Shad and Aiesha too shared a love for this classic time in music history.

This is a short, lunchtime read/listen so I will not spoil the book for you but Shad was listening to his heart most of the book then his brain took over and that was the slip up. Aisha, I love a woman who is comfortable in her sexuality and body. Momma knew what she needed and only accepted that!!

The supporting cast of friends makes me wish that we get some stories about them because each was a great addition to the story and helped with moving it forward. I enjoyed the audible performance Emmanual Ingram (@bookofemmanuel). I am convinced that man could read a phonebook and make it interesting. 4 stars

Novella

Yes, friends with benefits. A short novella of friends finally getting together and realizing they love each other.
