Publisher's summary

Cinda Williams Chima won accolades for her New York Times best-selling Heir trilogy. The first of a new young-adult trilogy, The Demon King features a former thief, Han, who’s trying to provide for his mother and sister. One day Han, who sports mysterious (and certainly magical) silver cuffs on his wrists, confronts wizards setting fire to a sacred mountain. Now possessing one ofthe wizards’ amulets, Han faces more trouble than he ever could have imagined.

Wonderful Fantasy with Memorable Characters

Would you listen to The Demon King again? Why?

Yes, Always something you miss the first time.

Any additional comments?

This was a wonderful fantasy with memorable well developed characters who have their own unique personalities. There is a lot of time shaping the world and politics of the setting. The plot is constructed of several subplots that will at some point diverge together. It is fast paced and still able to deliver intimacy with the characters. I thought of it as a combination of Aladen and Eragon. This book 1 does not end at all but just sets up and stops. You are forced to seek out the next book immediately. I recommend to anyone who enjoys a great fantasy.

great start to a fantastic political fantasy

What did you love best about The Demon King?

I do not really know why but I love political fantasies like this series. Probably because of the more intricate world building you get. Also the characters are so well written and intriguing.

What other book might you compare The Demon King to and why?

That is too hard to answer as I have not read any similar novels on this level. The only other political fantasy I can remember is A Song if Ice and Fire but they are nothing similar.

Which scene was your favorite?

The kidnapping and I say nothing more of that which you would all curse me.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Movies destroy good books

Any additional comments?

Carol Manda had done an excellent job narrating and brought all characters to life and made me believe other people helped with the voices (jk) but she brought every one of them too life.

Slow build, but looking forward to the sequel.

Builds rather slowly, but the story is compelling. I wish that the characters had put two and two together quicker. Hopefully this next book can be satisfy that left to be desired.

Great Start to a Fun Journey

Really enjoyed this novel. Lots of world building, characters that grow on you slowly, and not a lot of action. But that is OK. You do not need action all the time. Plenty of mysteries and intrigue, some good politics. Will be fun to see where the series goes from here.

Narrator was pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but fairly solid.

Love it

An amazing book, takes a few chapters before it really grabs you but I'm already on the second book and can't wait to finish all 4.

Capturing story line!

Would you listen to The Demon King again? Why?

I did listen to it twice, it was riveting and gave me lots of enjoyment! I don't usually take the time to write reviews. But I have introduced these books to many of my friends and they have loved them too. So I have the audio and hard backs.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Han because of his strength of character and wanting to do the right thing.

Totally Misleading Description

The book is about a young naive princess and her 'pitiable' troubles with boys. Like every YA female written, female pov book ever penned. The character Han, the only one described in the summary. Barely a sidenote.
