Lynn Redgrave is fantastic! I got this for my classroom children and ended up truly enjoying it for myself. Redgrave brings so much to the story by ..Show More »giving each character their own voice. Several months ago, my students listened while I read The Doll People, but really enjoyed this audio sequel (which saves my voice). I highly recommend this to teachers, parents, and young readers.
I have to say that this is my favorite book out of the three in this series. (I'm very excited about the 4th coming out in print and will continue to..Show More » look for it on audible)
The reason I am giving in 4 stars instead of 5 is a problem with the continuity of how the narrator says "Mama" and "Papa" In the first two she says it the same way that we are used to hearing it. In this third book she puts an emphasis on the second syllables and it sounds affected or stilted. I love to listen to these three books all in a row and when I come to the this one I have to brace myself to hear "Mama" and "Papa" said differently. It may seem like a small detail, but it interrupts the flow while I'm listening and that is unfortunate. In my ideal world they would go back and redo those parts where the narrator says those two words and make this book a perfect listen.
Other than that, the story is so much fun and their adventures are exciting. The narrator does different voices for each character and it is easy to tell them apart. She is a favorite narrator of mine. So, I say that this is an awesome listen and if you liked the first two (or even if you've never listened to them) you'll love this book.
