Actually, it is both. If the Shoe Kills is a lighthearted and fun novel that is mostly about women's relationships with each other and with the oppos..Show More »ite gender. But there is also a murder mystery to be solved. This book is fun listening especially after the four thrillers I listened to earlier in the week. It is a nice break. Narration is perfect!
I have read the previous books in this series and have enjoyed them. However, I found this one boring. The mystery plot was weak at best. The book ..Show More »itself was filled with complaints by Jill and her aunt. There was also a lot of information about everything Jill ate. Susan Boyce didn't help. I haven't been a big fan of her narration, however, in this book it really grates on my nerves.
Stories that take place in the little "walking towns" draw me. I could imagine the shops and feel like I got to know the characters. One interesting ..Show More »thing is the cheesecake. Every other page, someone is indulging and yet, no one seems to be chubby or rotund. I enjoyed the story although it was a light mystery. I did not choose it as a whodunit, but to listen to tales of life in a small town. In the beginning of the book, I thought, "pleasant read", but I would not buy another one of these books. I was drawn in and would definitely read another one.
The narrator was excellent most of the time; in fact, the only times that I felt distracted by the reading was when the timing of speech was off. It made me wonder if the fault was hers at all.
