What a great surprise. I purchased this book based on reviews and was not disappointed. It is the first biker book that I have tried and will defini..Show More »tely continue with this kind of book. Horse is an alpha male that has a sensitive side. There is great chemistry between Marie and Horse. I loved the fact that there is no billionaire in sight yet Horse is still powerful. My only critic would be the gang’s names. They explained the meaning behind them but I swear you would never believe that some biker would go by the name Horse or Picnic. I think this book has a really interesting concept of how a biker gang would operate. Sometimes I felt like it was a bit demeaning for some of the females but the author really helps you buy in because Marie is struggling with all the thoughts that are running through your own head. I say this is totally worth the credit. I think the narration was really well done. Stella Bloom was able to distinguish her male voices and female voices. Cannot wait to see if there are more books to come.
Great story, Ruger is so hot! I just wish the same narrator from Reapers Property did this one too. Dual narrator was different... both did good but i..Show More »t would of been better with just 1. Love Joanna Wylde Reaper's books!! Can't wait for the 3rd & 4th! Well worth the credit :)
This was a great story. Considering Liam's actions in the previous book, Reaper's Legacy, I didn't know if I'd like him as the he..Show More »ro of a book but he was a surprisingly good hero. I really liked Em as well and her and Liam made a great couple.
Em is the daughter of Picnic, the president of the local chapter of the Reaper's MC. Her mom died when she was a teen and she and her sister had to suffer through a certain amount of protectiveness from both their dad and the other MC members who thought of the girls as family. Unfortunately this messed up most of Em's dating possibilities from the first day of high school (where Picnic and his buddies gave her a "ride" to school) until present day. Em's sister has moved away to live her own life but Em has stayed with her dad but is frustrated by his inability to see her as more than a little girl.
Liam was in foster care as a child and the only one he cared about was his foster sister, Kelsey. Unfortunately, they were placed in a home that wasn't a good place for them to be. Things come to a violent end one day and it brings about Liam's connection with the Devil Jacks MC. The MC became a family for Liam and Kelsey and he did anything the MC needed him to do. Because of his background, Laim doesn't really understand love and doesn't know if he can even feel it (the closest is probably what he feels for his sister) so Laim doesn't typically do relationships.
For this story, we go back in time a bit to overlap some of what happened in the previous book so we can see some of how Liam and Em met. Liam watches Em and then manages to engage her in some facebook messaging and then eventually texting back and forth. Liam and EM didn't meet each other and were just friends until the night of Painter getting his patch as a full member of the Reaper's MC. There had been an attraction between Painter and Em but he'd never make a move. Em figured it was because he was still a prospect and so she gave him until he got patched in. Painter basically blows her off and acts like a real jerk and Em decides she's had enough. I don't blame her at all because to be honest, Painter was a jerk and the other guys in the MC excusing his ass with stupid excuses didn't help matters. Once Em decides she's done with Painter and informs Liam of this via one of their many text convos, Liam asks her to consider him as a possible boyfriend. Em has loved talking to Liam and so she decides to give him a chance. They chat long distance a while longer before they finally make plans to meet. Things end up going to crap part way through Liam and Em's first meeting though because of the actions of a rogue Reaper's MC member that kidnaps a Devil Jack's member. Liam is forced to change his plans and he and one of his buddies use Em and Sophie as leverage to get their member back alive. Things don't go quite as planned and Em and Liam have some interesting confrontations and interactions that cause mixed feelings on both sides. By the end, Liam is convinced he's lost any chance he might have had with Em and Em is angry with Liam and tries to hate him but can't.
Once things get settled and the 2 MCs have a tentative peace, Liam goes to see Em to tell her what happened (knowing that her dad wouldn't tell her anything). Em gets a bit of very painful revenge on Liam for his kidnapping her and, once he's recovered, Liam explains things and they talk a bit. Liam decides to leave her alone though, figuring she wouldn't want any more to do with him. Em doesn't contact Liam but her sister's interference and a night of drinking brings Liam and Em back in touch. Once Em reached out to Liam and he saw that she still cares for him, there was no way Liam was letting her slip out of his life again. Unfortunately, a friend who thinks he's doing Liam a favor, tells Em certain information that makes her think it's best for Liam if she isn't in his life. Liam has a hard time convincing her otherwise and just when he's finally got Em back, things go to crap for both clubs and there's much distrust between them MCs so they can't decide if it's the other MC doing this or a 3rd party trying to provoke them to fight (which becomes more and more likely). This doesn't end up being a very easy time for Em and Liam as not many people are in favor of their relationship. Liam has to make some serious decisions about him and Em vs. his place in his MC and I was very happy with how things worked out in that regard. Things don't go perfect as Liam does make some mistakes and there are other issues thrown in, but I liked the feel of things between Liam and Em. Once they got past their initial difficulties caused by their opposing MC loyalties, Liam and Em were great together. Liam became the man that Em needed, he was strong and sweet and chose her above all else in the end. Em's a sweetheart but she also had a strong core that I wasn't expecting but liked a lot. Together they managed to get through a lot in order to come out in the end, ready to start their HEA.
I really enjoyed this addition to the series. I loved Liam and EM together. Some people have compared the to Romeo and Juliet and I can certainly see the similarities but thankfully this story had a much better ending. I had a few complaints (the biggest of which I think if Picnic's actions towards Liam at the end) but overall the story was great and I loved it. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I'd recommend this story. 2 thumbs up. :D
* note - There were actually 2 narrators, a female for Em's chapters and a male for Liam's chapters. They both did a very good job and melded well together so the transitions between chapters (and changing narrators) wasn't jarring.
This listen first opens up in the present day timeline where handsome bad boy biker Painter is enjoying himself at the Silver Bastard's MC party - wel..Show More »l that is right up until his ex girlfriend (who he's never gotten over and still loves) walks in..... and she's not alone. This finally pushes Painter over the edge because, for five frustrating years, he's been saying sorry, begging for forgiveness and doing everything he can to get back with Mel.... so now he's not going to apologize any longer for the heartache he caused her, and himself, all those years ago.
Then the story goes back to a time when Painter is in Prison and the innocent besotted Mel is writing to him in the hopes that when he gets out he'll contact her and, because they've got mutual friends, she doesn't think she'll have to wait long. But Painter's inner conscience is telling him to stay away because he knows he's bad news, he nails and bails all his 'dates' within a week and he has a list of filthy things he'd really really like to do to her but he doesn't want to corrupt sweet Mel. It's a great plan but their sizzling chemistry, mutual lust and Painter's jealousy makes it impossible for him to stay away and he finally gives in to temptation.
But all too soon their happy bubble bursts when Club business, the Cops and some shocking unwanted news viciously tears them apart with dramatic, heartbreaking and catastrophic consequences that will let in pain, frustration, anger, angst and heart-felt turmoil that will last for five agonizing years. Then the story catches up and returns you to the unfolding drama that's happening in the present day at the Silver Bastar's MC party.
As usual, this is another delicious dual POV look into the Alpha world of the Reaper's MC, the lives and loves of this loyal brotherhood and their gritty, shady, bloody and dangerous business that demands and claims so much from its members. There's a love story between two strong willed characters and its got passion, hot sex, heartbreak, touching and very tender scenes, regrets and painful memories. But sadly love is simply not going to be enough.... only time has a chance of healing such anguish. The narration by Nelson Hobbs was good but sorry I didn't much like Saffron Martindale's voice.
Worth a credit? This exciting and enjoyable story had depth, layers, non-stop drama, a lot of character growth and an emotionally packed bitter-sweet romance that was all centred around the wonderful and addictive world of the sexy leather wearing dominant MC bikers. If you love them (as I do) then you'll love this (as I did) and YES it's another creditworthy listen from the gifted mind of Joanna Wylde.
