Calling all paranormal romance lovers!!! This is a great new series featuring a brand new type of 'paranormal'. New Species are humans spliced with an..Show More »imals...could be cat, dog, who knows, but whatever the species, it made for a really good listen. There were some moments where the story dragged or was a little redundant--literally over-focusing on certain points way too long but once it got back on track and moved forward, things progressed well. The characters were sexy, fierce, and funny as they found their way to love and navigated their new environment amidst dire circumstances, such as trying to have uninterrupted sex! Trust me, that's one of the funniest, and somewhat frustrating points of the whole book, but it doesn't take away from the fact that I loved it!
The narrator is a new one for me, and she was good, she has a great voice although there were times where it seemed like the narration was very very slow...perhaps this was deliberate but given what she was saying and the context of the story it seemed like she was trying to add drama where it wasn't really necessary. All of the less than positive aspects of this book pale in comparison to the positive attributes so, I'm already going to purchase and download the other books, as I am now a FURY fan and New Species obsessed!
Ok so I swoooooooned over Fury (book 1), but, Slade just made me 'swoo'---the story was decent, but, I found it lacking a little in terms of depth or ..Show More »drama considering how many action packed and full of endearing moments the first book had. Slade had its highs and lows throughout, but, by the end it just ended abruptly, which was a bummer. The best parts of this story was the quick wit of the characters--there were moments where I laughed out loud, and the great sex scenes---HOT. I'm still a fan, because this is a good series and I'm curious about how the New Species world will continue to develop.
I've already downloaded book 3, and judging by the brief introduction of Valiant in book 2, I'm SO ready to listen.
I really like the New Species series... however not all the books are on the same level...
Book 1 was great, but book 2 fell short to me. Thi..Show More »s one was awesome! I actually think this one was a bit better than book 1. Only slightly. I love the whole possessive alpha male thing...
I love they way this book started... with Valiant and others in a showdown of dominance because the human invaded his territory.. Then he grabs her up and makes her his!!! It was awesome. The whole book was pretty darn good.
I've wanted to hear Justice's story since I began this series and I was not disappointed one bit!!!! This sexy story was further enhanced by his roma..Show More »ntic interest--Jessie--I LOVED her! I've gushed about all the preceding stories, and my adoration of this series continues. Justice's story is less of a "nailbiter" than the other one's so it was a nice change. It still has action, but, it focused more on him coming to terms with his public persona versus being a man in love. I adored every moment, definitely a credit worthy series.
My love for New Species continues to grow. I enjoyed Brawn all the way through until about the last two hours of the book. The story started off funn..Show More »y, with immediate intensity and suspense, I was in love, and then as everything was starting to come together things got really redundant and frustrating! It was like these two lovebirds couldn't get beyond their own stupidity and angst. Thankfully, by the last half hour of the book Brawn and Becca finally got their acts together and I was madly in love all over again!
This series has great narration, hot alpha men, and I like how the author has found interesting circumstances for the characters to find themselves in on their journey toward true love and an understanding of their new existence. These are not standalone books and I highly recommend starting from the beginning with fabulous Fury!
If it's not obvious from my other posts regarding the New Species series, I'm a HUGE fan! I've enjoyed each book, but, there's something about WRATH ..Show More »that tickled my fancy in just the right way! Each book has the same basic concept more or less, but, this one stands out to me because Wrath was so incredibly loveable and I just melted as he and Lauren's relationship developed. I'm also really looking forward to Shadow's book--I think its book 8 or 9--and yes, I've pre-ordered them all! As has been the norm in the Species books there was a healthy dose of humor and hotness, and these books can't be released fast enough for me. I'm totally consumed and loving every minute!
My one and only issue is with Ali (Dr. Alison Baker). She was extremely wishy washy the entire book. ..Show More »It literally drove me crazy. Apparently she had a connection with Obsidian because she literally stole him from the NSO... but as soon as he wakes up and she gets to see him again, she gets all "I love you, but I can't be with you".
But what really takes to cake... is how she is supposed to be a doctor, and she has the hugest language barrier with him... She gets pissed b/c he is too blunt... Well he has been locked up in a cage for, IDK... his entire life... so yeah... social etiquette will go right out the window for Obsidian... how does she not get that... Seriously...
The story is pretty much the same format, NS finding their mate with a human... but Ali is just... eh! She reminds me of Trisha... just irritating...
Story is still worth a listen; especially you have invested in the other 7 books... Just be warned... Ali is going to be irritating.
Good Credit, Buy or Sale... Either one...you will be happy... but seriously... think about Ali before you use that credit. I prefer to use my credits on something more expensive and that will leave me feeling satisfied...
Narration was awesome... as usually for this series and narrator...
I fell in love with this series all over again with Shadow. I think this may be the final one in the New Species series but I wish it wasn't. This is ..Show More »definitely a credit worthy series. Shadow's and Beauty's love story is so sweet and endearing my heart was bursting at every chapter. Also this one had a good balance of romance, action and of course humor...I love the misinterpretations the New Species have. I'd love another New Species story, but if I can't get that, anything from Laurann Dohner will do, she's a great author of this genre and Vanessa Chambers is a narrator I'll seek out for sure!
I actually would. I have been an avid fan of the series even though i have found a few of these books daunting and have been tempted to skip through c..Show More »hapters but this book actually drew me in, the characters were a bit more in depth and enjoyable.
This was a really good story. I liked both Smiley and Vanni both separately and together. Their story was very good and kept me e..Show More »ngaged until the end.
Vanni is a nice lady that got sucked into a mess. She lives with her BFF, Beth and has a job she likes. Vanni starts the story engaged to a lawyer named Karl. Her last boyfriend had cheated on her so she thought that Karl was a safe bet to settle down with. She doesn't like Karl's father (who's a preacher that's a hate monger against the New Species Org) and Karl told her he wasn't close to his father. Unfortunately, she soon finds out that Karl's been lying to her.
Smiley is a NS male that's a primate. The NS come in 3 varieties, feline, canine or primate. The primates tend to be less animalistic and more emotional than the other NS. Smiley took his name because he's a friendly guy who is almost always smiling and in a good mood.
Vanni was supposed to be going out of town with Karl for a weekend getaway but when they get to their destination, she finds that they're actually at a conference to support Karl's father. Karl insists that they have to be there because they need more money for their wedding and his father is willing to give them the money to be there. Unfortunately, Vanni is expected to act and talk like the members of the church and she's not ok with that. Karl sends her off to her room (since she's not toeing the line) but Vanni isn't interested in being locked away in her room. She goes to the bar and gets an ice tea and is surprised to find that she's sitting next to a New Species. Although Karl's father is hates the NS, Vanni supports them and is disgusted by the people that treat the NS badly. She starts talking to Smiley but is embarrassed to tell her who she's at the conference with. Soon however, Vanni is feeling drunk and that makes no sense considering she didn't drink any alcohol. Smiley realizes that they've both been drugged with the mating drugs that were developed in the labs for the NS while they were in captivity. It causes horrible pain to the recipients unless they can get sexual gratification.
Once they figure out that Smiley and Vanni have been drugged, the NS try to get them back to Homeland to get medical help. They don't get very far before the drugs start affecting them strongly and in order to save Vanni pain, Smiley offers to help her (sexually). At first she's horrified (because although she's already having thoughts to break up with Karl she hasn't yet so she's still officially engaged) but soon the pain is too much to bear and she takes Smiley up on his offer. They make a connection while they're together but things go wrong and Vanni doesn't get to Homeland and her and Smiley get separated. They both miss each other and want to see each other again but Vanni's also worried because the NS may believe she had a part in the drugging so she doesn't try to make contact with Smiley. Unfortunately, the bad guys behind the drugging aren't done and decide that they're going to cause more trouble which puts Vanni in much danger. Vanni manages to escape the bad guys and ends up reunited with Smiley in Homeland. Once they're reunited, things go pretty quickly between Vanni and Smiley. Smiley knows he wants Vanni for his mate and sets out to convince her of that ASAP. Vanni is a little freaked because she's kind of shy and hasn't had much sexual experience and Smiley's tendency to talk so openly about feelings and things of a sexual nature is something she has to get used to. Smiley is patient with her but isn't afraid to push her a bit so she can open up to him. They get to know each other while the NS works on getting the bad guys taken care of and by the end of the story, Smiley and Vanni are starting their HEA together.
I really enjoyed this story. Smiley and Vanni are such a sweet couple. I lived that when things seemed to indicate that Vanni may have been behind drugging Smiley, Smiley believed her protestations of innocence and tried to convince others that she wasn't responsible. He was just so sweet and protective from the start and I was so happy to see him find happiness with Vanni. This was a really good story and addition to the series. I'd recommend this story. Thumbs up! :D
