Halfway to the Grave is delicious! The Best of the Genre! 10 stars! A+ I am 30 and I write this review for anyone who might think this is young ad..Show More »ult nonsense:
Personal Disclaimer: Im new to the genre. I snubbed my nose to it bc of the pop culture craze of Twilight, and a strict loyalty to the Vampire world of Ann Rice. Somehow, I stumbled into the paranormal/time travel genre with Karen 's Fever series, and then finally read Outlander. After dabbling in a few JD Ward books, "The Night Huntress" series was recommended to me and I downloaded this book. I was judgmental of the cover and the silly name, and it just sat in my audible library for months. After listening to a heavy depressing book, I needed a break and put this on...
I LOVE this book. I'm addicted and in love with these characters. Bones is surprisingly funny and charming but very different from the smoldering alpha males in every other romance novel I've read. Cat is my favorite heroine since Scarlet O'hara! This book is so different from any other "vampire" or paranormal book I've ever read. It's funny, sexy, and completely engaging.
But to my amazement, it also contains one of the hottest love scenes ever written, not because of any graphic sex, but because of the chemistry and tenderness of the two characters. I was surprised by how sexy this book was. And the author doesn't play the same old games of delaying the "good parts" till the end, which is frustrating and gets old pretty quick! (I waited 5 books for Moning's characters to finally hook up.. And still resent the frustration i felt) Instead Jeaniene Frost uses the integrity of her writing to create sizzling chemistry and true emotion between this unlikely couple. The story itself is intriguing and unfolds as a suspense filled battle with the reader just as interested in the plot as in the characters love life. What a true gift of a book.
Finally, I must say a narrator makes or breaks an audio book. In this case, Tavia Gilbert is AMAZING! I want her to read every book I have. Her character voices are wonderful, and she brings this to life better than any actor could on a movie screen.
This book has it all! And I plan to devour every book by this author!
So this book was way better than the first. I'm addicted to this series and can't wait to keep going. I loved some of the turns the series took with t..Show More »his installment and there was definitely some stuff there that I wasn't expecting. These books are making for wonderful entertaining on my daily commute. Again, my main complaint is with the voice the narrator uses for Bones. Isn't just not masculine enough. But I do recommend these books for anyone that likes some urban romance. Just beware there are very long and detailed sex scenes in the books.
This book has been the best of the series in my opinion! It has what the last book was missing, passion, and action from the first page! I absolutel..Show More »y love this series and can hardly wait until the next book is released. Cat and Bones are my favorite lovers/haters/romanitcs/killers I've met so far! I also LOVE the fact that they have used the same narrator on ALL the books. She is good, does good voices and I don't have to adjust to a new reader after every book.
For all the Cat and Bones fans this book will not disappoint. Cat and Bones are well into their relationship so this book really delves into family/fr..Show More »iend relationships, acceptance, and unconditional love. ~~
I laughed out loud and shed many tears through out the book. The passion between Cat and Bones is still present and the love scene took my breath away. I still favor Chapter 32 in One Foot in The Grave, but this one probably comes in second. ~~
I have been spoiled with the intense heat, lust and passion between Cat and Bones over the last few books and I felt like it was lessened in this one. I am sure this is because they are solid in their relationship. The ups and downs in their relationship that blasted passion and lust through out the pages aren't present in this one.~~
Tavia still rocked the narration. I do think she went a bit overboard in some of the scenes..She overpowered some chapters that were written so beautifully that merely reading the words would have produced a heart stopping reaction. ~~
I have started my count down for the next C&B this fall.. But I guarantee I will listen to this audiobook over and over again until then.
Jeaniene Frost delivers once again. I love how Frost has continued to develop the relationship between Cat and Bones. It's nice to see a character g..Show More »row and change, but it's even better when that character is self aware enough to realize the change.
I do have one problem with all of the stories in the Night Huntress World and that is Tavia Gilbert. Her reading is so well done that she sets a high bar for other narrators. Each and every character has a unique voice, even as the universe expands. The only other narration that comes close is that of the Lords of the Underworld series. I'd give her performance 6 stars if I could.
