This book is marvelous. Simply and utterly brilliant. So brilliant it took my breath away. The fantasy world CL Wilson creates is vivid and real, with..Show More »out the monotony of boring details. Somehow, it just seems to flow from the story and form in your mind. The main characters are so well developed you feel what they feel. It is romantic fantasy, but very well balanced. Lovers of either genre should be pleased with this book. The only drawback to the story itself is that while this book can stand alone, it doesn't do so comfortably. You will finish wanting more, and more is not (yet) available on Audible, which is a pity.
The narration by Stephanie Reggio starts out a bit shaky. There are points when you can hear her breath, and she does miss some punctuation. These problems do seem to iron themselves out for the most part the further into the book you get. Her handling of emotional scenes, and her building of tension in dramatic scenes is very good.
I would highly recommend this book. It's one of those rare books that I will remember for years to come. While there are some small problems in the narrators delivery, I can't do anything other than give this book 5 stars. The story is just that good.
I loved this series ...the charcters are smart and funny with a deep sense of loyalty to each other ...This is one of those series you have to start w..Show More »ih the first book and go through the rest , you can't skip around or you will be lost ....I have the feeling the series was probably written as one big book since there are no real gaps between the books.each book you see the progression of the characters and their relationships ...Ellie and Rien have one of those stories you just fall in love with. The narration is actually good and I normally don't like most of the female narrators. This book is well worth the money
This is the third book in the Tairen Soul series and the third different narrator. I thought that a new narrator (and a consistent one) for the last t..Show More »hree books had to be an improvement over the first two narrators (numerous mispronunciations, poor timing, with no break between chapters or scene changes, etc.).
Well, I was wrong. By what logic would anyone chose a narrator with a lisp to read an audiobook? Early in the reading, Ms Durante sounded like someone reading to children at storytime. As the book progressed, the reading improved somewhat, but young girl voice with the lisp is consistent throughout.
Most audiobook readers, male or female, are able to use their voices to convey different characters/genders, but that is poorly done in this case. What should be strong male voices are still sing-songy and lispy. On the up side, there are few, if any, mistakes in pronunciation.
It is a shame, because I love this series and had really looked forward to listening to the entire series on audiobook. I'm not sure I can keep going with this narrator, as she is so irritating to listen to that I'm distracted from the story.
I can fully recommend the Tairen Soul series though. The books are delightful!
I loved . . . well, strongly enjoyed, the first two books in this series. The narrators were decidedly rough, and the editing between scenes was abomi..Show More »nable, but their voices were warm and sweet and did the story justice. And each of them improved over time. So I bought the 3rd and 4th books without checking the narrator. What a mistake.
Emily Durante really ruins this book for me. Her baby voice lisp, and sing-songy cadence just sound weird. It made me feel like a four year old being read a bed-time story -- a very violent bed time story. Her character voices aren't bad, exactly, but the fey male characters in particular sound like children instead of the thousand year old hardened warriors they are supposed to be. They are fey, not fairies -- but you can't tell from Ms. Durante's interpretation. Using her to record these books is criminal.
I hope someday the powers that be will re-record this series with someone worthy of it. Until then, I'll give it a skip.
Was this a good book? I have no idea. I was so distracted by the reader that I couldn't focus on the story. I tried not listening for a week (thereby not to compare her with previous readers) but it didn't help. It's hard to listen to the Tairen Soul when he sounds like a teenager.
