I must admit to feeling an innitial stab of disappointment when I discovered that Holter Graham wasn't reading Zarek's story, However within minutes, Fred Berman made me forget all my objections. Not only does he give Zarek a rather sexy accent, but his emotional and intense naration brought the characters to life.
Zarek is the quintessential dark and tortured hero and Astrid's strength and courage are the perfect complement. Zarek's story touched my romantic's heart.

This story doubles back on the timeline and even recalls word for word the phone call between Wolf and Talon while he debated whether to finish off hi..Show More »s coffee or the prey hhe is supposed to be hunting--Fabbio alert! It continues past the news of Zarek's fate and then carries us forward to give Wolf's story the proper finish.
The story puts a few head-twists on how we view Damons and gives us our first non-human female love interest--an Apollite. We also get a hysterically funny view of Wolf's interactions with his nephew/Squire that make it worth the listen for those moments alone.
As usual, there is a tremendous amount of humor that often makes me laugh out loud as well as poignancy that brings tears to the eyes. We also get a satisfying reunion of Julian, Kirian, and Talon for a romping good fight plus more enigmatic Ash and his studly super powers.
I can hardly wait to get back to New Orleans for the next story and the tears and laughter I know it will produce.

I realize this is an abridged title, but after having read the hardcover prior to listening to this selection, I can honestly say that there is a huge..Show More » difference between "abridged" and "butchered." Too much of the story line was left on the cutting room floor! So many aspects of the story are simply not there. A shame to do this to such a popular author as Sherrilyn Kenyon. If I find any more of her work in audible format, I hope they will be unabridged!

Where I seem to disagree with most other reviewers is in the narrator: This more or less ruined the audio book for me. With Kenyon's writing being rather blatant by itself, the exaggerating and over-emphasizing style of the narrator definitely crosses the line to the ridiculous. I found myself halfway between laughing and embarassment....
I find that a female narrator suits this type of book much better and rather liked the one doing "The Dark Side of the Moon".

She has the ability to pull you in by the way the characters are introduced. With sexy appeal and the swagger rolls out of the voice of Fred Berman and you are able to picture them in your minds eyes. The struggles to not love and want to protect his reluctant cuffed partner Simone Dubois, Xypher not only falls in love with her, but would learn to trust her and teach him how to live.

This book is several years overdue past its original deadline. I am pleased it when it finally arrived and it was not a disappointment. The audible ..Show More »book reader was *outstanding*. Fantastic. I was so pleased I also read the hard cover in addition to this audiobook. It is one of the few I have listened to multiple times. I can say that this is not an author whose work I display on my library shelves. Nor do I read her books over and over. But Acheron was excellent and I have listened to it repeatedly.

Some parts are rather sad and sometimes I skip those but the book, overall I have been terribly pleased with it. I think the audible reader's vocal talents are to be highlighted.

With the added flavor of the vocal talents of the actor, it took it over the top. Most of the feedback and reviews that were critical of the amount of pages devoted to the miserable beginning of Acherons life. That criticism was pretty scathing. Too little page percentage weighted for happier in balance with his overall lifetime. While it was an a sad life, and I would have liked it to have been a bit happier, I think people need to ease up. I am just glad the story has finally been told. This author has been dribbling out tidbits about this character for over a decade and now the meat and potatoes arrived.

In fact, I'd like to see another book on Acheron. I loved it.

The narration by William Dufris, however, is so horrendous I would put him in Audiobook jail if it were possible. The Narration is utterly useless in that it failed to achieve the most important task in a narrators job description- SKILLFULLY PORTRAY THE STORY! This guy was so bad it almost sounded like he was just goofing off and trying on different absurd voices while narrating in a nasal singsong that made me want to claw my eyes out. This was conceivably the most distracting, clunky and wholly frustrating performance I have ever heard. Ultimately, I bought and read the e-book fearing I missed a great deal of the story which as it turns out...I DID! This was truly annoying for any fan of Kenyon's work or anyone who paid for a story they will never glean full benefit of by virtue of bad acting and a total lack of any production oversight or to reign him in.
Love the story. Love the book. But sadly I advise fans to seek out the "Library Edition" of this title as the Library Editions are often narrated by different people.

Don't get me wrong -- I loved the book, and really enjoy the Dark Hunter series. However, I felt a little let down when the end came, having expected..Show More » more from the build up of the story. The story of Buffalo, Butterfly, Coyote and Wren was intriguing -- however, I felt in the end as if it was unresolved in the bigger story of the book, with only the disclaimer that more would be expected in time to come.

Also, the main theme of the Dark Hunter books was almost skipped over here, with various forays into the realm, and yet kind of like swiss cheese. I wish Ms. Kenyon had written a longer book, where everything was more part of the whole, and not so many scenes strung together.

Hopefully, she plans to pull this together in a further story down the road, but I have my doubts. And, I will say, the bonus at the end of the book was great!

Although this was the second time I've listened to this brilliant Dream Hunter book (first time was over a year ago!) it is the first time I've review..Show More » it, and I was still captivated from start to finish.

Well, what do we want from our paranormal/romance books - an imaginative and interesting plot, preferably written by a gifted author, with great paranormal characters and creatures, a hunky leading male who has a good romantic chemistry with his love interest (hopefully it includes some 'hot n heavy chapters) all brought to life by the voice of a brilliant narrator. Well this ticks those boxes............. and more.

Worth a credit? Apart from the above criteria, it was also very very touching, traumatic and tense and I have found all of SK's books to be credit worthy - so it's a definite YES from me.

I am so disappointed because I loved lo..Show More »ved loved the book; it made me laugh out loud and is just a thoroughly warm, fun and imaginative story. If I could separate ratings out for story and narration it would have been 5 stars for the story and >1 for Ms. Marshall's interpretation as she changed the whole feel of the story for me and it wasn't for the good. Spend your $$$ on the book or go to the library, don't buy the audio version.
