I've been looking for another author who can write an interesting story, develop his/her characters and give me a smile on a regular basis without dra..Show More »gging me through some long drawn out mistaken perception and hurt feelings. I think I've found her in Robyn Carr. She has all the qualities I love about Nora Roberts' stories, without the graphic descriptions of the violence that so often seems to anchor a romance story. This story is about a young woman whose husband is tragically murdered causing her to leave LA for a more peaceful place. From the start, you know that Virgin River isn't exactly peaceful, but is full of "characters" in the true sense of the word. Hope, Doc and Preacher are wonderful foils for the main characters Mel and Jack. Sure the romance develops a bit rapidly, but it's a romance novel after all. The love scenes are tasteful while steamy and the relationships delightful. I'm already in to the third book of the series and they just seem to get better. I'm so glad there's more!
Robyn Carr is such a masterful storyteller! She makes you feel like you know each character individually. These stories are well-written, funny, tou..Show More »ching and believable, with just enough spicy romance to top it off. I sincerely hope Audible gets the rest of this series because they are truly wonderful. I suggest starting with the first book (Virgin River). Oh, and the narrator is EXCELLENT!
This series touches your heart, the characters are so alive you can feel their emotions. I am all sure if there was a real Virgin River we would all ..Show More »want to live there. This series is exceptional!
I have enjoyed every book in the series. For me, each story took my interest from the beginning and kept it until the end. It's nice to come home af..Show More »ter work and look forward to plugging in the iPod and escaping to Virgin River.
Robyn Carr's Virgin River series continues to be entertaining in Second Chance Pass that includes returning characters and introduces new ones. Thes..Show More »e people have depth, mystery, strengths, and weaknesses that make them interesting and believable. I enjoyed the multi-generational love stories - teens through seniors. Therese Plummer's narration is amazing. You actually think you're listening to multiple voices.
Robyn Carr does it again with another excellent story in the Virgin River series. If you love Robyn Carr's other VR books you will love this one. Th..Show More »e story of Luke and Shelby is excellent. Several other side love stories and catching up on favorite characters from previous books too. I would pay 2 credits for these books. The narrator is excellent too. Don't miss these!!
This is another great Robyn Carr addition to my library. I love her writing and her characters. I love reading about their ongoing lives. This one ..Show More »in particular was very good. Thank you Robyn Carr. Thank you Audible. I had already bought this book in large print.
Great, great story. As with all the Virgin River books this one has a main story and other side stories in it. The story of Noah and Ellie is very s..Show More »weet you can see their love develop and grow as many changes happen in their lives. Narrator is excellent as always (she is one of the best at Audible). Very credit worthy and I will listen to this one again...you will too.
Always good to return to Virgin River, a town with supportive family, neighbors and friends. I appreciate the range of age in the characters in this s..Show More »eries too, from young to old. The focus of this book is Luke Riordan's younger brother Sean. The Roirdon family's Irish Catholic values play a part in the story too. It is another story about unplanned pregancy which RC tells in a sympathic and thoughtful manner. Sean reunties with an old flame Franci, the girl that got away! The book focuses on their past relationship and building the future with a young daughter. This book lacked the suspenseful scenes usually in all RC books, but remained true to Virgin River format, always making you feel good! They are imperfect people who recognize just that, families that stick together through it all and friends that help out with a kind word, or a hammer, or a meal.
Robyn Carr does another excellent job with this next installment on a great series. I like the fact that these stories are about more than just roman..Show More »ce. She gives real insight into these characters, most of whom are flawed in one way or another, so it's like relating to actual people rather than fantasy heroes. As always, I encourage you to start with the beginning book of the series, Virgin River, if you haven't already done so. If you are already a fan of the series, this book is like catching up with old friends.
What a wonderful story!! Jillian is forced out of her job (a very shocking situation) and she decides to go to Virgin River for a while to think about..Show More » what she'll do next. Collin Riordan is healing from the injuries he suffered on a helicopter accident and rents a cabin in Virgin River.
The romance takes its time and its so well developed. This is definitely the best book in the Virgin River series. The secondary story about a young man named Denny that goes to VR looking for his birth father is really interesting too. Oh and the end of this story brought tears to my eyes. So good and so believeable!
Narration: it's Therese Plummer! She's simply the best narrator ever. Nobody adds emotions to a book like her. Different and perfect voices for male and females. She has kept the distinct voices of each character for all the fourteen books.Best. Narrator. Ever.
For anyone who enjoys romance series, this one is for you. Although some of the scenes are a bit over the top (speaking of the series in general and n..Show More »ot this book in particular), these books are a pleasant read without anything to graphic. They give you the view of people in a small community that work as friends and neighbors. With men who are all any woman would want (okay, it is a little unrealistic to have so many handsome, caring men who idolize their woman) it makes you want to pack a suitcase and head out to Virgin River and Jack's Bar. I'd advise getting all the books in the series and starting at the beginning. You can listen to these as stand alones but you get a more in depth feeling fot the characters when you learn about them from the start and how they interact with each other.
I listen to this series over and over and can't wait for the next book to come out.
Point of fact, I am a Robyn Carr fan. I love her work. I am a Virgin River fan and I???ve greatly enjoyed learning all about this town and its extraor..Show More »dinarilly interesting inhabitants.
Being a series lover, I especially enjoy finding one that is populated with vivid characters and a setting that is appealing. Then I just sit back and enjoy each visit. I can highly recommend these books to readers who like an ongoing series that takes the time to allow you to get to know the characters, for they appear again and again, giving us an opportunity to know what their life is now after the happy ending. These are romances, but with a little oomph, drama, and suspense to them. Beauitfully written, expertly crafted each and every book is a keeper adding to the richness of the entire series and then you have the narration of Therese Plummer - simply an unbeatable combination.
This book was just ok for me. I guess it just focused too much on guys hunting and then a big snow storm rather than the hot passionate romance I expe..Show More »ct from Robyn Carr. The romance starts to develop about half way through the book and there is not much conflict to keep the story interesting. It does have a nice christmas theme and the ending was very sweet so I recommend it as a nice christmas listen.
Narration: I love Therese Plummer as a narrator. I'd probably listen to a dictionary if she were to narrate it. She has the ability to make distinct voices for each character as if there were more than one narrator. She did an excellent job with this story!
Liked the book, it is the usual easy listening, takes you to another place that we are use to. I was thrilled she finally stopped using "delicious" in..Show More » every romance scene, I don't think she used it once, which was good for me because I couldn't stand it. I was also thrilled to get no lectures on safe sex, it was becoming most annoying. No huge surprises in the book, the usual easy listening of Virgin River and Therese Plummer does these books well.
Robyn, you did it again. Once again I am sleep deprived! You wrote another awesome book! I love the direction you take with your characters and s..Show More »tory lines. This one includes a Harley Riding/Child TV star and a Multi-tasking parent to 5 year old boys! If you love the Virgin River Novels then this is one of the best (I think I say that about all of them)
I enjoy this Virgin River series when I want light reading (listening) with a feel-good ending. This book is a good addition to a light series about ..Show More »normal men and women with everyday lives and problems -- there are no super powers, no world-shattering conspiracies, no extreme technology or special effects. These are stories about people I can relate to and understand.
Although I'm usually a stickler for reading a series in order, this book can stand alone. Other characers from around Virgin River are included, but this story does not rely on their histories. However, if you're interested in Reverend Kincaid and Ellie, you can go back to read Forbidden Falls, or if you want to find out more about Jack and Melinda, you can go back to the first Virgin River book (very humerous and touching). The Riordan brothers have their own books in Moonlight Road and Wild Man Creek. As for the narration, Therese Plummer's performance of Robyn Carr's books will alway improve my mood!
