This is book one in a series about a detective named Jack Daniels (female) who works in the homicide unit of the Chicago Police Force. Some of the ch..Show More »apters are written from the point of view of Jack and then others from the point of view of the serial killer.
Jack has a partner named Herb who provides some comic relief. The two main characters are likable and I enjoyed the story but the details of the serial murders are VERY GRAPHIC. Before I downloaded the book I had read that in reviews and thought I had heard it all as I have watched shows like Criminal Minds, CSI etc and read some true crime novels but this truly tops those by far. I was listening to this in my car on the way home one night and found myself saying OMG more than once. When I got home I got freaked out just walking by my closet in the dark (if you have read the book you will understand this).
It makes me wonder what goes on in the mind of the author that he comes up with the murder details that he does - if I was his wife I might be concerned...
So if you are a little squeamish about some of the things you have seen on tv or movies you might want to think twice before downloading.
OMG! This book is so funny. Great cop story with so many twists and turns, I couldn't stop listening. The characters are anything but ordinary and ..Show More »the situations they create are WAY past funny. Dick Hill & Susie Breck are WONDERFUL narrators -- the BEST.
Sorry - Gotta go. I can't type and laugh at the same time.
Audible.com, you need to get more Konrad books in the store!!
First of all never get multiple titles by the same author you've never read before. I did this with Konrath, at sale price fortunately. As my buyi..Show More »ng history shows I'm not a prude with my listening. However this book was completely obsessed with sex to the point of total boredom. EVERYTHING was viewed with sex colored glasses. Of the hundreds of books I've listened to this was one of the 3 or 4 I just put down, it was just that boring and useless.
Although some of the other Jack Daniels books have a humorous tinge to them, this book left me feeling yucky! It was horribly gruesome and sexually sa..Show More »distic. I have enjoyed other books in this series more. The plot did not flow well either. It seemed that the horrific tortures to people were weighted more than the actual plot. Not a very good read for relaxation.
If you've already reached this book, then you have been reading the Jack Daniels book series for a while and finally, eventually, reached the end. If ..Show More »so, then just do it, buy the book. You want to know what happens, where it ends and who survives. This is a brutal thriller that finalizes all the characters and their stories.
If you're new to the series you don't want to start at the end, I don't think. The book assumes knowledge of the rest of series. Also, this book continues where Shaken leaves off. It's rough to read, very graphic and violent. But this series needs to end with a villain worthy of Jack and the rest of the killers she's come up against.
If you've made it here, then buy it, it's a good (but not spectacular) end to a very fun series. If you're new to the series, it starts with Whiskey Sour and is a very good collection of books. I loved them. Get involved and have fun!
If you enjoy gross but funny cop stories, listening to J.A. Konrath books read by Hill and Dawe are a must. I wonder where Konrath comes up with some ..Show More »of the gross detail and yet he can be so very witty. You will cringe and laugh at these short stories. It is a nice touch to have personal notes by Konrath attached to each story.
Not better than the print version, but well read to capture the way the story was written with two distinctive voices of the two character narrators. ..Show More » I don't often like audio books, because the reader doesn't always capture the voice of the character the way I hear it in my head when I have read the story. But these two readers did an excellent job of capturing the spirit of the characters in their reading interpretations. They should be used for all Duffy and Jack Daniels books in their respective series.
