Publisher's summary

Retired cop Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels and her ex-criminal husband Phineas Troutt have made a lot of enemies over the years. But none worse than The Cowboy, a gunslinging nutcase who wants to slaughter them both, and Hugo Troutt, a gang leader who has been plotting revenge against his younger brother for over a decade.

Separately, these baddies are formidable. Together, they are unstoppable.

But Jack has even more hell to deal with. She and her former partner, private eye Harry McGlade, are in L.A. chasing an insane plastic surgeon who specializes in disfiguring his victims. And Jack's colleague Tom Mankowski has problems of his own with a snuff film auteur named Erinyes.

With four psychopaths on the prowl, Jack, Phin, Harry, and Tom will need to call on some old friends if they hope to get out of LaLa Land alive....

This thirteenth Jack Daniels novel brings together villains from Konrath's thrillers White Russian, Everybody Dies, and Webcam, along with heroes from Shot of Tequila, The List, What Happened to Lori, and Flee, for the ultimate West Coast showdown.

The hunt is on. But who's hunting whom?

Loved it!!!

Thought because I hadn’t read the other books some of the characters are in I wasn’t going to understand who the characters were but ended up falling in love with some of them. Makes me want to read their back stories.

Narrator & Jack

Please no more whiny Jack. I wish you would go back to the narrators that you used in the first few books of this series.

He's a giant train of talent.

This is one more great story. You know it can happen and he mixes his insane comedy with the macabre and I finish one and start another.

Jackie is back!

Wasn’t sure I like it at first but the story developed really well and I enjoyed it a lot. Jack is back! and I am thrilled about that. The narrations seemed a little Flat and monotone in places. The narrator did distinguish the voice as well but they in between the voices it was just kind of monotone. But shes better than the guy. I wish the original girl who did the first books would return.

Mr. Konrath please go back to being the voice of Harry.

I typically don’t write reviews… but this time I feel it’s necessary. I think this might have been a good Jack Daniel’s book, however the narration made it very difficult to follow the action/storyline. I found myself going back re-listening to portions to try and figure out who said what. Very frustrating.

And please Mr. Konrath, please go back to being the voice of Harry. Your voice makes Harry both lovable and disturbing.

Bad Narrator

The narrative for Harry McGlade never changed from a female inflection. Also there was background noise throughout the audiobook.

Hard to follow

I really didn't care for the narrator, Out was hard to follow bc all the characters sounded similar. Really missed Konrath as McGlade.

Chaser is a great book…but…

I’ve listened to most of the Jack Daniels books but the narrator of this last book has changed from male to female. That’s not a problem but the problem is that the “voice”, (gender notwithstanding), hence personality of the reoccurring characters has completely changed and don’t really make sense. It makes me wonder if the narrator had read any of the past books. Sam, Jacks little daughter, is supposedly around 5 or 6 (judging from the last book which took place immediately before this book), now is narrated as someone who sounds like she’s 12 or 13. Harry Maglade doesn’t have his comical lisp and the accent of Erinyes sounding like Peter Lorre doing a take on Frankenstein’s Igor is laughable and little confusing, because if I remember correctly in another book about Erinyes that character had no such accent. The narrator would be great but not for these characters. I miss the past narrator.

Awful narration

Will be returning this title and purchasing the ebook instead. Absolute pity as every other Konrath audiobook I’ve listened too has been really well narrated (and I have purchased easily around 15 of his audiobooks). Could not listen to this past the first few chapters. Reader really is not a good fit for this, and her attempts to perform make voices is juvenile. Give Konrath/Kilborn other audiobooks a go though and I suggested skipping the audio on this title and getting a good old fashioned book.
