This book is the story of Francesca's friend (from Fancy Pants) Lady Emma and Dallas Beaudine's protege Ken Traveler. It is hilarious!! Adding to the writing genius of SEP, you have the best female narrator in the business, Kate Fleming/Anna Fields who had tragically died in 2006 after working on Natural Born Charmer (another great SEP). What a loss to the literary world. I really miss her. Get this book and every other book by Mrs Phillips. There is no comparison to her talent.

This is an old book that SEP updated and re-released. It is easy to "read", funny at times, sad, sexy and traditional SEP - a great read. Unlike oth..Show More »er authors that I've read that have rereleased older books, SEP does this one in a way that makes it seem like she wrote it recently (though I liked the old version too). If you like SEP, you can't go wrong.

PS Good choice for the narrator. I was curious who could possibly narrate after the fabulous Kate Fleming / Anna Fields. Julia Gibson does a nice job. I've enjoyed her work with Catherine Anderson as well.

I was completely filled with righteous indignation and..Show More » was all prepared to scream long and loud if the book was not worth the wait or if a sub-standard narrator had been selected...but oh was that NOT a problem.

I loved this book...and here comes a shocker...I LOVED THE NARRATOR!! I didn't think an SEP audio experience would ever be the same after Anna and I still miss her narrations dearly, but Shannon Cochran who holds her own. And is a reader more than capable of allowing the listener to experience the tale. I hope she is the narrator for the next book. I will definitely be looking for more of her work.

Typically, SEP usually gives us the primary couple's story and then there is a secondary couple...that was missing from this book...and I'm glad...because I wanna know what Lucy was up to...and I want ALL of the details.

I did love the individual characters in the town...but even more so that the town itself took on the role of one of the main characters in the book and not just a setting. There were several characters from previous SEP books that we were able to catch up with...the only one that came off a little different to me was Kenny; I'm not certain what happen there he was a little too "grown up" for me.

There is not much I can say about this book that I didn't like...but SEP be warned...don't make us wait this long again! :)

THE GOOD: The story was satisfying in the way some of the older books were - good characterization, a couple of side stories, an interesting location, and some interesting bits about various "locale" things that made it easier to visualize the setting.

THE IRRITATING: Like so many successful fiction writers, SEP seems to feel it her duty to jump on social and political issues as part of the storyline. This is not a terrible thing. I suspect that authors employing these devices do make their readers stop and think a bit, but in this book, as in many others I've read in recent years, the preaching is just a little bit too much to the forefront and takes away from the story, rather than adding to it.

THE MEDIOCRE: I came away knowing more about the secondary characters and their motivations than I did the Hero. His story is held back for much of the book. The sexual tension between Lucy and Panda is not quite as hot as I might have wanted, and I''m not talking about explicit sex scenes here, but the ongoing sizzle. SEP is capable of this, as seen in Match Me If You Can and as far back as This Heart of Mine.

I'm hoping her next book will have less social consciousness and more romance.
