I have listened to every Clive Cussler book ever published. Spartan Gold is absolutely phenomenal! I realize that Grant Blackwood likely provided the ..Show More »historical research and National Treasure-like treasure hunt premise, but the book also followed the classic Cussler format. Start with a historical event, then fast forward to current day, eventually tieing all the pieces together masterfully. One chuckle, was the part of the sleuthing that had Remy determine a trigonometric solution by seeing a lady on crutches. This was just too much of a stretch; however, the premise of the plot, and the ingenous use of image-based riddles, all linked to Napolean's life, was quite engaging. A one-day "couldn't put it down" adventure...
This isn't Cussler's best work. The meandering plot at times gets lost in the historical details, interesting as they are. Sam and Remi are just too "..Show More »precious" for my taste. Scott Brick has cleaned up a lot of his narrating flaws and does a good job.
I've been a long time reader and listener of Clive Cussler's books. I relish an adventure with Dirk and Al as much as any other Cussler fan. I really ..Show More »enjoy the stories with Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon. I have also found great enjoyment in our intrepid detective, Isaac Bell. However for some reason Sam and Remi are fast becoming my favourite Cussler protagonists. I don't know why for sure but I'm thinking it is the interaction of a married couple. It's similar to my enjoyment of the original Hometime series where Dean and his female co host would act the role of a couple doing whatever the episode was focused on. It brings the story home to me. Although my wife and I have no experiences like the Fargo's do their banter back and forth and unshakable faith in one another is something I can relate to.
The Kingdom, the latest Fargo offering from Mr. Cussler, is a very enjoyable ride. A great weaving together of history and adventure that makes you want to not stop the story. In my humble opinion Scott Brick should be the ONLY voice of Cussler books as he delivers another sterling performance.
You will not be disappointed with the journey you'll take in "The Kingdom"
Clive Cussler does it again. From the first page of the book, the reader’s attention is grabbed and kept throughout the book. Although unbelievable,..Show More » Clive Cussler entertains the reader with an action packed adventure of Sam and Remi Fargo, taking them from one continent to another as they try to find the treasures of Attila the Hun. I found this book to be an entertaining read that kept my attention throughout all 384 pages. I would definitely recommend it.
