This is a fast paced book. It is well narrated. We listen to these in the car and it kept the whole family entertained and wanting more. The only bad ..Show More »part was when it finished and we did not have the next book to go on with. Fantastic for all ages.
Bobby's adventures continue with his first visit to a non-human society, where humans are called Gars and are considered a lower life form. While he ..Show More »is dealing with the ultimate culture shock and trying to stay alive, Mark and Courtney find that in order to do what they feel is the right thing they have to break some rules. They find out the hard way that you don't get to choose the consequences when you break rules, and sometimes others pay for your choices.
This series is amazing, and fun. I especially love this book because I am a parent, and my kids love this series. When they get to this book there are so many life lessons that can be learned from these words. How often do we set out to do something good, for all the best reasons, and along the way make choices the end up haveing unexpected and unintended consequences? I love how real the characters are, and how true to themselves they stay. Mr. MacHale has created each of them with unique motivations and drives, and even thought the series covers a significant age range for all of them, they are believable and embracable.
Mr. Dufris' performance in these books is magical. He brings the story to life. It is not just someone reading words from a page. It is a tallented voice actor making each individual unique, identifiable, and exciting. Some reviewers have complained about his performance. I thoroughly disagree. His reading is part of what makes it so fun to listen to these stories over and over again.
Thank you both for hours and hours of uplifting family entertainment.
This entire series is pretty good. It's nice to find a decent series and not have to spend a lot of time searching out the next book to read. This ser..Show More »ies is quite long and so is good for months of entertainment. I recommend the entire series and this book is every bit as good as the others I've read in this series.
I hate Spiders, I hate being confused about the travelers, but I love the story and thanks to my nephews who got me into D.J. MacHale, I Love this ser..Show More »ies and will finish it! Oh Nice evil twist in this book..
Great series of books, I love them! I feel like some of the plot can be weak at times but overall I like it a lot. The reader of this audio book was k..Show More »ind of corny, but I got used to it. Over all a great audio book!
Bobby Pendragon is now a family institution. I have re-read this entire series four or five times now. This last instalment is definately more emoti..Show More »onally mature than book one, but then Bobby and crew are much older, and they've been through lots of refining fire.
Mr. MacHale's writing in such a way that I, as the reader, know only what the point of view characters know has been brilliant throughout the series and the pay off in this book is huge. Book 9, Raven Rise, left me hanging. The Soldiers of Halla opens with explenation of who Bobby really is.
By the end of the book, I cry happy tears in the last chapter every time.
The battle for Halla, and between Bobby and Saint Dane is classic good verses evil. Freedom of choice verses totalitarianism. I am greatful that my kids can read this and see brave kids making hard but good decisions, even when it hurts them to do so.
I have two daughters who also love these books. My 11 year old first started this series when she was 9 and has re-read the series twice. She always wants these books to be on her kindle and her mp3. Thanks to Mr. MacHale she is becoming an avid reader.
Mr. Dufris has taken lots of abuse in reviews. I completely disagree. His reading is magical. The voice he uses has always been apropriate to the book he is narating. He brings the stories to life and is consistant across the series. There are far worse narrators in the audible panthion.
