I mainly wrote this book because I wanted to share the love story Twix and I have. Twix is my soul-mate and means more to me than anything in this world. He might be a border collie, but we have a connection and an incredible relationship, unlike anything I had ever experienced before Twix came into my life. Twix had emergency herniated disc surgery after a frisbee accident on Sept 24, 2016, and it took me five years to write this book.

These stories were written when my husband, Terry, and I lived in South Dakota between 1999-2005. They are about the people in the town where we lived who were strongly connected to their Danish ancestry and imbued with Christian ideals. Viborg is a small town in the South Dakota prairie. Our time spent there gave us new understanding into what is meant by grass roots and middle American ideals from people who are the salt of the earth.

My husband and I moved from Idaho due to a job transfer in the fall of 1999 to a little town in South Dakota. We were new empty nesters and left our friends and family behind to live, to us, in a strange new world. Terry wanted to be as close to the land as he could get, so we bought a small house in the little prairie town of Viborg. I wrote weekly letters and a detailed journal for the six years we were there. These letters and other writings provide the basis of my stories. We had many memorable experiences. The ones told here are just a few of them.

One of the church families was moving. There was a farewell party at the McCready home. McCready’s home is a large three-story farmhouse off the main street - probably a real farmhouse at one time. The McCready family home is large, and so is the family; the mother teaches piano lessons and music part-time in the local schools and knows music well. During the course of the evening, Sister McCready taught us a fast and easy way to lead music - just use a circle. It’ll do the job.
