EM Press Slam Poetry Series are readings and performances of the best slam poets in the country. Performing abridged works from their poetry books, this series includes the most significant voices in the slam poetry community, including, slam founder Marc Kelly Smith, Louder than a Bomb co-founder Kevin Coval, Marty McConnell, Jack McCarthy, Billy Lombardo, and Regie Gibson.
Chicago poet and co-founder of the largest teen youth poetry slam in the country, Kevin Coval's readings and performances of his first book of poems, Slingshots, is boldy beautiful with its hip-hop manifestos. Coval is one of the first poets to merge hip-hop and poetry into the slam discussion. He very well could be the Chicago heir to the Chicago legend Studs Terkel.
