After the total collapse of the world economy, the United States could not stand together. So they failed separately. In the small region-state of Winnkota, poverty and greed are turning the idyllic Northwoods of Minnesota into a barren wasteland of clear-cut forests and over-fished lakes. Every able-bodied teenager is conscripted into a labor force and sent to work in harsh, prison-like conditions. They are enslaved young so they never learn to think for themselves. But Penn is different.
"Kept me on the edge of my seat."
Penn and Cesswi, the teen survivors of a brutal northern Minnesota work camp, escape to the Greater Albertan Federation, only to become unwilling recruits in a deadly civil war. The Albertan camp is riddled with dark undercurrents, and sabotage that strike close to Penn and his dearest friends, leaving them disillusioned with the supposedly “better” life. But Penn's girlfriend, Cesswi, sees only wild conspiracy theories.
Tom and J.C. are experienced in the woods and on the river; the brothers, too, but Will and Nate are a couple of clowns and not so dependable. Haley, the head cheerleader, is loaded down with her makeup and accessories. Katie just looks at them all and shakes her head. So, what could go wrong?
"What a wonderful adventure"
