An unique and intense tale following Elim Garak as he attempts to stitch the ravaged society of Cardassia back together.

For nearly a decade Garak has longed for just one thing—to go home. Exiled on a space station, surrounded by aliens who loathe and distrust him, going back to Cardassia has been Garak's one dream. Now, finally, he is home. But home is a world whose landscape is filled with death and destruction. Desperation and dust are constant companions and luxury is a glass of clean water and a warm place to sleep.

Ironically, it is a letter from one of the aliens on that space station, Dr. Julian Bashir, that inspires Garak to look at the fabric of his life. Elim Garak has been a student, a gardener, a spy, an exile, a tailor, even a liberator. It is a life that was charted by the forces of Cardassian society with very little understanding of the person, and even less compassion.

But it is the tailor that understands who Elim Garak was, and what he could be. It is the tailor who sees the ruined fabric of Cardassia, and who knows how to bring this ravaged society back together. This is strange, because a tailor is the one thing Garak never wanted to be. But it is the tailor whom both Cardassia and Elim Garak need. It is the tailor who can put the pieces together, who can take a stitch in time.

A Stitch in Time, written and narrated by the absolutely fabulous Andrew J. Robinson, is a masterpiece of Star Trek literature. I picked up A Stitch in Time on Friday afternoon and by Monday morning I was done with it. I could not stop listening to this captivating story that explores the life and mind of one of the most intriguing, mysterious, charismatic and controversial characters in Star Trek history: Elim Garak.
A Stitch in Time is a must-listen for all Star Trek fans, but especially for those who love Deep Space Nine. It is the story you were waiting for, the story that reveals the secrets of Garak's past, his motivations, his relationships, and his hopes for the future of mighty Cardassia. It is an uniquely intense adventure that follows Garak as he attempts to stitch the ravaged society of Cardassia back together after the devastating Dominion War.
Garak is one of my favorite characters in Star Trek and it was endlessly entertaining listening to Mr. Robinson bringing him to life once again after so many years. His voice, his tone, his emotion, his humor, his sarcasm, his intelligence, his charm, his passion, his pain - everything that makes Garak such a fascinating and complex character is brilliantly conveyed by Mr. Robinson's flawless performance.
A Stitch in Time is not only a gripping, thrilling, entertaining and thought-provoking tale set in the best science-fiction universe ever created, but also a profound and insightful exploration of Garak’s nature, his morality, loyalty, friendship, love, and redemption. It is a rare and precious gem of science-fiction literature that shines in deep space among the stars of Star Trek.

Garak is one of my favorite characters. I have read the book multiple times and when I found out that Andrew Robinson narrated A Stitch in Time, I knew it was time to start my Audible membership.

I didn’t think I could love his story more however, the moment I heard his voice, I fell in love with his character all over again. A brilliant book and it only got better hearing Garak tell his story the only way he can in his own voice.

The physical book is wonderful, but hearing it in Garak’s own voice is an absolute treasure. Andrew Robinson brings his incomparable gifts to bear in what is not only a great story but a fascinating dive into one of my favorite characters.

Not only has this character been retroactively given a ton of depth and an outstanding backstory, but Robinson’s vocal work is gripping. I could listen to him narrate anything for days on end.
