A minister's young widow is targeted by a small-town serial killer in the New York Times best-selling author's Southern romantic thriller.
To most people, respected clergymen like Mark Cantrell are pillars of the community, and completely beyond reproach. But their killer knows better. They are sinners of the worst kind, and they must burn on earth before they burn in hell....
Eighteen months after her husband's unsolved murder, Cathy Cantrell has returned to her Alabama home, eager to build a new life for herself and her son. But reminders of her past, like Deputy Sheriff Jackson Perdue, are everywhere. And a spate of recent deaths - each victim burned in the same horrifying manner as her husband - leave Jack and Cathy in no doubt that a serial killer is at work....
Now as a twisted killer moves in for a final, brutal act of vengeance, buried crimes are coming to light once more. And this time, justice will be swift, merciless, and as silent as the grave....
Contains mature themes.

Her family sucks big time so does everyone else in this book but in what world is it okay to keep a pregnancy secret from a good man who you love and loves you back just because he’s out fighting for our country? Like he’s a freaking hero and got KIDNAPPED from the terroists him and his ELITE UNIT are fighting to keep you and your messed up family safe from and you’re gonna act like he’s the one who broke your heart? With all this talk about how mark is a good man your cheating husband who didn’t love you and you didn’t love? Give me a break 😂 this story is so backwards that I’m literally yelling out loud at work at how pathetic and stupid they all sound. I’ll update at the end if I change my mind but I lost respect the second they started talking smack about jack being a killer and how he’s the one who left when everyone damn well knew he was an active solider who was kidnapped and missing for 6 months.
Okay update now that I finished the last three hours:
I stand by my statement but I dislike Cathy even more now 😂 my god…. So you find out she didn’t know jack was alive until her son was 2 so it makes it less of a slap in the face that she married but whatever that doesn’t help everything else that makes her the dumbest woman ever. (Spoiler alert (ish)) anyways, after she finally tells jack he’s the father, jack walks away pissed off needing space… naturally and understandably. After one day of not calling her she has the nerve to be like “well if he’s mad and can’t forgive me then that’s on him that we lost our second chance” like no honey it’s still 100 percent on you and it’s been a freaking DAY! Chill out. Worse of all, part of what was holding her back from telling him was her being unsure if they would work out. He’s the father it doesn’t matter if he wants to be with you or not like wtf 😂 AND THEN her friend Lori has the same dumb nerve to talk smack about jack and be like he’s a piece of trash blah blah blah how dare he not forgive you! He would have done the same thing anyone would have!…. Ummmm no Lori you’re wrong and you’re a p.o.s for even thinking that. And it’s been a day so chill out you psycho. Other than that it was entertaining enough. 😂
Cathy kind of sucks
