Publisher's summary

Lydia Susi and Daniel Joseph’s story continues in the Lair of the Wolven series from #1 New York Times bestselling author J.R. Ward.

For Lydia Susi, there is no sweet sorrow in saying goodbye to the man she loves. As a wolven hiding among humans, she’s used to being alone—until destiny gives her the kind of love she never dared to dream about. But after a sudden devastating diagnosis, grief is the only thing she sees in her future.

As an operative for a clandestine arm of the United States government, Daniel Joseph always expected to die an early death. He just assumed it would be out in the field—not in a laboratory hospital bed. With his time running out, he refuses a potentially lifesaving treatment to focus on making sure that Lydia finds her wolven clan.

Following an attack on the lab’s compound, Daniel fears his former boss is coming after the two of them. Marshaling his strength, he must call on all of his training to protect his love…even if it means her moving on without him.

Not the best

It was a struggle to complete. JR Ward needs to focus more. I'm willing to wait for a good book. This was meh.

love JR Ward books! I love how it intersects with BDB series as this one has John, Hex, Rev and Hex's brother.

Lair of the Wolves Book 2

I was left kind of feeling unfulfilled. Don't get me wrong -- it was enjoyable enough to listen to since Jim Frangione is an A+++++ narrator who I could listen to all day. I also love the main characters, Daniel and Lydia. And if you read or listened to book 1, you know Lydia is one of the wolven. But there are other things going on, and I kept waiting for the why of the stories or for something climactic to happen, but it didn't. The book ends on a cliffhanger, but it isn't about Daniel and Lydia. So I guess there will be a book 3, and I'll have to read or listen to that when it comes out.

I really wanted to like it

It was a slow start. Slow middle. Cliffhanger end. Sadly there was nothing answered, but made more questions.

🌻I hope JW hasn’t jumped on the trilogy bandwagon 🌻

🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻V from Kansas🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

This series is different from the original BDB and the other spinoffs. In the past series, each book focused on a particular couple’s story and ends with their HEA. So far, this series has surrounded the same couple and both have ended with a , sort of, cliffhanger. After two books, the listener/reader still hasn’t a clue whether or not this couple’s issues will allow them a HEA. I sure hope that JR Ward hasn’t started breaking one story into several books, for financial gain. That seems to be the trend and it really aggravates me. I’ve even scratched authors off of my list because of this. Unfortunately, this book reminds me of a second book, of a trilogy; Nine ours of turmoil and angst while the plot seems to run in place. I’m not giving up yet but, I’m getting concerned.

The series is two books in and there has been very little exposure to the Wolven society. As a matter of fact, other Wolven are only briefly spotted once.

There are some scenes with Hex, John Mathew and the other Brothers, to include the medical staff, at the training center. There is also a glimpse into the sim path colony but, not the world of the Wolven, WTF?

I’m really hoping that the series gathers momentum, in the next book. So far, this is the first series, by this author, that hasn’t blown me away!😭
