Had to read this for an undergrad course and I will say as far as assigned materials go, this is as long winded as any academic text one might read in any other course(which is why it's a 4 star) but Maza introduces some really thought provoking concepts and she uses so many examples it really helped paint the picture. Some chapters could definitely have been shorter but, as a history buff I liked the extra meta information. overall if you have to read this for a course, it's not bad.

I found it a very helpful “narrative” of thinking of history. Because of it I am way better in understanding history as written and told today.
I appreciate the author’s clear statement in the outset that she is discussing the Western perspective / take on history in the last few hundreds years as it sharpened my understanding on the one hand and allowed me to think constructively about other countries / civilizational takes on history.
