Publisher's summary

An original novel based upon the explosive new Star Trek TV series on CBS All Access.

Lieutenant Saru is a Kelpien, a member of a prey species born on a world overrun by monstrous predators...and a being who very intimately understands the nature of fear. Challenged on all sides, he is determined to surpass his origins and succeed as a Starfleet officer aboard the U.S.S. Shenzhou. But when Saru breaks protocol in order to prove himself to his crewmates, what begins as a vital rescue mission to save a vessel in distress soon escalates out of control. Forced into a command role he may not be ready for, Saru is caught between his duty and the conflicting agendas of two antagonistic alien races. To survive, he will need to seek a path of peace against all odds, and risk compromising the very ideals he has sworn to uphold....

Great!

Third book is the best in this series yet! I'm looking forward to hopefully more books set around the crew of the Discovery.

Great New Addition

Fear Itself is a great new addition to the Star Trek: Discovery book series. I enjoyed learning more about Saru and his background. It was also good to see our friends from the Shenzhou again. I also have to say that I'm really enjoying all of the new unabridged Star Trek books from all of the series that have come out recently. Please keep it up!

Good story - problematic voice acting

The story was fine. Can we seriously please stop having white people do horrible Asian accents for Georgiou, though? You're embarrassing all of us. Including yourselves.

Love the book!

Love the theme of facing the fear and overcome it! Suru is the main character not Philippa or Michael which made me a little skeptical before I started listening. But once I started, I couldn’t put it down. Love the book which is much better than drastic measures! Robert is the best narrator, ever!

This book series is better than I thought

Each story in this series adds to the Star Trek Discovery world I love it and have enjoyed each one I read so far. I think this was either the third or fourth one I heard in this series, they're all good give them a listen.

Star Trek doesn't need the Enterprise We have

Discovery
Now it's still going to use Tholiun's, (without the Tholiun web) and now I can listen to complaints about this star ship is not a constitution ship. Now it's a bucket of bolts and a mixed up timeline? I thought Captain Kirk's Enterprise was a constitutional spacecraft? I'm still not sure about the classification of Captain Picard's ship?Where do we go to now, where we thought no one needed to go there again?

I can complain about little things easily, but who will write about this new crew? Because listening to this new crew and their stories that I still need to go where I want to boldly dream I could go there to? I think while I'm working, it would be terrible if I could not listen this kind of stories again! authors have to follow an established timeline set by Gene Rotinbery (sorry spelling) and authors being limited to a timeline set! Final thought, fun to listen to, timeline was messed up!

WOW!

An epic adventure! would love to see it on the big screen. Reminded me of the political conflict of our nation at the moment.

Petcoff saves this story

kinda sorta struggled with this one. petcoff's narration is so good that I was able to somewhat get past the less than stellar story.

It turned my 14 year old on to Star Trek

It was a little slow at first, but with the introduction of species I don't recall before, it was necessary. But, as my son said, "it REALLY picked up at the end."

Good, but nothing special

Although I liked this book, it feel it's pretty standard Trek stuff, with few new reveals about DCS or Saru and few insights overall. Still a good book which I enjoyed. 4/5
