He's a troubled young actor, Hollywood's newest heartthrob, struggling with fame as the star of the latest superhero franchise. Through scandal after scandal, addiction on top of addiction, a flurry of paparazzi hunt him as he fights to conquer his demons.

She's a single mother, assistant manager at a grocery store, existing in monotony with her five-year-old daughter. Every day when she goes to work, lurid tabloids surround her, the face of a notorious bad boy haunting her from their covers.

A man and a woman, living vastly different lives, but that wasn't always the case. Once, they were just a boy and a girl who bonded over comic books and fell in love unexpectedly.

When Kennedy Garfield met Jonathan Cunningham back in high school, she knew he had all the makings of a tragic hero. With stars in his eyes, and her heart on her sleeve, the pair ran away together to follow their dreams. But dreams, sometimes, turn into nightmares.

Now, years later, the only thing they share is a daughter - one who has no idea her father plays her favorite superhero. But Jonathan is desperate to make amends, and at the top of his list is the woman who gave up everything for him and the little girl he hasn't yet met.

Great Book..... a must read... worth the credit

I really enjoyed this book. This is the first time I’ve read a story by this author but I will be on the hunt for more of her work if this book is anything to go by.

I was kinda confused by the way the author told the past in third person. After the first few times I got the hang of it.

In the end the book was a wonderful story that I will listen to again.

LOVED LOVED LOVED

I was a little confused at the beginning of the book because she was reading the past in thrird person but by chapter three I was locked in. Like I always say I love a cute kid in the story and maggie was hilarious. Cute kid, comedic timing and sweet sex. I loved it. Worth the credit. AND OF COURSE NARRATION WAS STELLAR

great book, love found again

I think the reader of this book portrayed the voices of the characters well and showed emotion where needed. I love how the book jumps from present day to past so you can relate what happened to what is happening now. A story of heartbreak and finding your way back to love you thought you lost. I definitely recommend this book for those of you that love a happy ending.

Loved story, male narrator lacked variety

Good story, flashback sequences enhanced the pace. I enjoyed getting to know the characters. Story didn’t need the ‘sizzle’. I started to listen to this a month ago and stopped because of the male’s narration at the beginning was hard to follow. I’m very glad I kept going the second time. Although I enjoyed the male narrator’s voice, his timbre, it was hard to know which character was talking. His narration did get better at the end.
Spoiler alert:
I would like to see a sequel which included the towns people and the struggle of a famous person making his life there. Perhaps some funny stories about community theater. Female narrator was perfect

Interesting but not great

It had its moments. Interesting idea. A lot of addiction throughout.

The author needs to strike the phrase “he cut his eyes at her” (substitute pronouns for all variations) from their toolkit. It was so overused it could’ve been a bad drinking game.

Good story, annoying narrative

The story is pretty good and the characters are likable. I could not stand the 2nd person point of view during certain aspects of the story. Made no sense and irritated me. H

The present day story was interesting enough to deal with the parts with the 2nd person

Great listen

This was a really fun book to listen to.
J.M Darhower has been a favorite for years.
It’s sweet, funny with a touch of angst and a healthy dose of spice. Narration was perfect too.

A tale of redemption, done really well.

Fortunately I was warned about the 3rd person narrative parts, so that wasn't a shock. The rest is amazing. (those parts were too, once you understand what it's doing)
Sometimes, you really do have to lose everything before you know what is actually important enough to fight for it.
This was a great story about what it takes to overcome all the hurt you once caused.
Normally I'm not a fan of multiple narrators, but this was done brilliantly.
