Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. Lies. Words destroyed me.
"I'm sorry. She didn't make it."
"Daddy, he can't breathe!"
"There's nothing more we can do for your son."
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me. More lies. Those syllables and letters became my executioner. I told myself that, if I didn't acknowledge the pain and the fear, they would have no power over me. But, as the years passed, the hate and the anger left behind began to control me.
Two words - that was all it took to plunge my life into darkness.
"He's gone."
In the end, it was four soft, silky words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
"Hi. I'm Charlotte Mills."

Amazing narrators as well. Would high recommend this duet.
Emotional

It's 10 years later and she meets Porter Reese son Travis, only to discover Travis is Lucas. Enter a police investigation, custody concerns, hot heads, lies, lawyers and chaos. Travis is the only one that seems to have a voice of reason among all the adults.
This book with make you laugh, and empathize with all the characters Aly Martinez brings to life. It's unfortunate that kidnapping happens in today's society and with the narration of Nelson Hobbs and Kasha Kensington, makes you feel the pain, and the thought process of all touched by the tragedy. The great thing is, in this story there is a HEA.

This entire series (Darkest Sunrise, Book 1 & Brightest Sunset, Book 2) had suspense, heartbreak, humor, support, jealousy, love and respect woven throughout all characters.
Note on Narration: Kasha Kensington was wonderful and brought life to the female lead and the children's voices. Her take on the male lead wasn't half bad either.
Nelson Hobbs did fantastic! Exactly how I feel the male lead should have sounded. He brought emotion and heartbreak and humor in a way I haven't heard other male narrators do before. Fantastic job!
Loved both books!

In this second and final installment, I felt the gut punches left and right. Devastation, heartbreak, healing, happiness, love. It all consumes you from one page to the next.
At first I was so disappointed in Charlotte, keeping Travis from Porter. Her of all people knew what it was like to have her child ripped from her so for her to put Porter through that, it literally broke my heart into a tiny million pieces. I cried so hard during this book. Big, fat, ugly tears of heartbreak. It’s emotionally consuming and will drag you through the darkness but the light at the end of the tunnel is so bright that it’s worth every minute of it.
This was an exceptionally unique story as I’ve come to expect from this author. Her writing is breathtaking and comes from a place full of heart. Every minute, every chapter, every moment of this story was a journey through something beautiful.
Highly emotional.
Whole- Heartedly Captivating.
A Must Read Story that will move you on an entirely soul touching level.
Definitely recommend
Nelson Hobbs gives one of the best performances ever. Passionate, emotional and full of heart. The narration in this book is exceptional. Kasha Kensington was beautiful. She took on Charlotte’s character in both the darkness and the light. It was truly moving.
An Emotional Journey from the darkness into the light!

As much as I wanted to hate Brady, you couldn’t help but to sympathize with him.
Wow, what a ride

Wonderful Story!!

It’s definitely worth being prepared for the full duet.
This one was a little anticlimactic— but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Lots of family drama, and some questionable actions by the Main Characters but I got why it happened. I would’ve liked to see more actually bonding between Charlotte and Travis, and the romance take a back seat.
And Brady, ughh what an infuriating douche-y antagonist!
Great narration in dual first person pov
This book: 4 Bright Sunsets
Solid 4.5 as a complete duet.
What a nerve-wrecking ending!!
