Publisher's summary

"A surprise from the author of Chocolat," New York Times best-selling author Joanne M. Harris, "this pacy adult fantasy is narrated by Loki, the Norse god of fire and mischief" (Vogue).

This novel is a brilliant first-person narrative of the rise and fall of the Norse gods - retold from the point of view of the world's ultimate trickster, Loki. A number-one best seller in the UK, The Gospel of Loki tells the story of Loki's recruitment from the underworld of Chaos; his many exploits on behalf of his one-eyed master, Odin; through to his eventual betrayal of the gods and the fall of Asgard.

Using her lifelong passion for the Norse myths, New York Times best seller Joanne M. Harris has created a vibrant and powerful fantasy novel that the Sunday Sun recommends "to her long-standing audience with wit, style and obvious enjoyment"; The Sunday Times claims it "lively and fun"; and The Metro adds that "Harris has enormous fun with her antihero...this mythical bad boy should beguile fans of Neil Gaiman".

I loved the fact that the stories weren't super altered from the ones I learned.

I loved this retelling. It doesn't mess with the original stories. It keeps within the confines of the surviving stories, but gives the story from the trickster's perspective. The author does not turn Loki into a hero, but does show how his treatment by the Gods embittered him. His punishment after Baldar's death is visceral, as is his vengeance.

True to the stories but from Loki's perspective

Very entertaining narrator and characters! Easy to follow along. If all you know about Norse is what you learned from God of War, then this will be super insightful and fun. I consider myself a new listener to audiobooks and base a lot of things off the voice acting. This guy has a great storytelling voice!

Quick Binge!

This is a pretty fun take on traditional Norse myths, as told by the villain of most of the stories. It covers pretty much the entire history of the gods of Asgard, from the creation of their world up to Ragnarok. As someone who was only vaguely familiar with the original stories, this seemed to stick close enough to be familiar, but took enough artistic license to stay fresh and interesting. Definitely worth a read, and I'm curious about the sequel, which is faintly teased at the end of this one.

The performance by Allan Corduner was great. At times he feels a bit like he's channeling Tom Hiddleston's Loki, but he gives the character enough of his own flavor that it doesn't feel like just an imitation.

Highly recommended.

An entertaining spin on Norse mythology

This was such a fun read, I enjoyed every minute of it! I loved seeing the other side of the coin from the stories I was already familiar with. It provides new insights and views, while keeping the accuracy of the sagas that inspired it (with a bit of poetic license, of course). I want more.

Such a fun book!

The narrator is an essential part of this review. Allan Corduner brought the written word to life and kept me listening to the last prophesy. It was fascinating to experience the life of the Norse gods from Loki's point of view. Entertaining and enlightening.

Well done
