Suze Orman has transformed the concept of personal finance for millions by teaching us how to gain control of our money -- so that money does not control us. She goes beyond the nuts and bolts of managing money to explore the psychological, even spiritual power money has in our lives. The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom is the first personal finance book that gives you not only the knowledge of how to handle money, but also the will to break through all the barriers that hold you back.

Combining real-life recommendations with the motivation to overcome financial anxieties, Suze Orman offers the keys to providing for yourself and your family, including:

* seeing how your past holds the key to your financial future
* facing your fears and creating new truths
* trusting yourself more than you trust others
* being open to receiving all that you are meant to have
* understanding the lessons of the money cycle

The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom is useful advice and inspiration from the leading voice in personal finance. As Orman shows, managing money is far more than a matter of balancing your checkbook or picking the right investments. It's about redefining financial freedom -- and realizing that you are worth far more than your money.©1998 Suze Orman; (P)2007 Random House, Inc. Random House Audio, a division of Random House, Inc.

This is an easy listen, and offers lots of insight into why we have certain spending patterns, often stemming from early childhood experiences with money.

Useful info

I enjoyed hearing about the different types of life insurance, and wills vs. trusts. However, I didn’t know this book was from ~1997. The limits on contributions to IRA’s and 401k’s have increased significantly since the writing of this book and a Roth version of a 401k wasn’t talked about in the book since it wasn’t even an option at the time this book was written -only Roth IRA’s (which was covered). Sound principles but outdated.

Good but out of date

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, she is very knowledge and is able to keep you interested to the end. I was surprised that the audiobook ended so soon I wanted to hear more. The audiobook is three hours but does not seem that long at all.

What did you like best about this story?

Financial tips for the average person. She gave real life scenarios which were very helpfuI. I also liked the fact that she included a spiritual twist to it. What is also interesting is that her family and her have experienced a lot of the same financial stress in their lives as we have. She knows how we feel.

What about Suze Orman’s performance did you like?

She is down to earth.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When she asks us to go back to our childhood and remember our first financial event.

Very useful financial tips.
