Publisher's summary

Women make up almost half of today's labor force, but in corporate America they don't share half of the power. A major reason for this? Most women were never taught how to play the game of business.

Throughout her career in the super-competitive, male-dominated media industry, Gail Evans, one of the country's most powerful executives, has met innumerable women who tell her that they feel lost in the workplace, almost as if they were playing a game without knowing the directions. In this book, she reveals the secrets to the playbook of success and teaches women at all levels of the organization - from assistant to vice president - how to play the game of business to their advantage.

Men know the rules because they wrote them, but women often feel shut out of the process because they don't know when to speak up, when to ask for responsibility, what to say at an interview, and a lot of other key moves that can make or break a career. Sharing with humor and candor her years of lessons from corporate life, Gail Evans gives listeners practical tools for making the right decisions at work.

Timeless, practical advice.

There is a take away on every page. I wish I had a guide like this when I graduated from college.

It was okay.

Some decent insights, but I couldn’t help but feel like this is more of asking women to work around the toxic self-centeredness and egomania of the “good ol boys club” behavior. I will give it a second listen eventually and update this review.

This book by Gail Evans offers timeless and sound advice for how to navigate the working world as a professional women. It doesn't matter that we are years into the women's movement - we now are deep into #MeToo, #SeeHer and many other issues that continue to plague women from an inequality standpoint. This book offers fierce and fearless advice for how women can take the power back into their own hands, and move forward successfully. Most of the references aren't true anymore. Things aren't perfect, but men have been much more civilized in the workplace.

Outdated

This would have been useful to me 20 years ago - wish I’d read it then! There are more contemporary books now for women in the workplace. I recommend the Confidence Code.
