Hunting vampires is her legacy.
Detective Rainey Astor walks a dangerous line between the human and supernatural worlds. As a vampire hunter, she's a formidable opponent, having killed hundreds of their kind. Yet, when her latest foray into the supernatural world goes terribly wrong, she finds herself rescued by the very creature she's vowed to kill.
Elijah Hawthorne is unlike any vampire Rainey has ever met. His sexy-as-hell exterior hides a tortured soul seeking redemption. Rainey knows she should avoid him at all costs, but fate has other plans. Together, they're forced down a twisted path of ancient revenge and tainted love.
With Elijah guarding her back, Rainey must protect her heart, because giving in could mean a death sentence for them both. But if they don't discover the hidden identity of their enemy before the clock runs out, she's as good as dead anyway.
Contains mature themes.

Not bad

It’s fairly cliche, with stock characters and a smattering of unnecessary F bomb. The tone is pretty juvenile considering Rainey is 37 and Eli is centuries old. There’s a mystery that starts with nonsensical breadcrumbs left from beyond Rainey’s sister’s grave. If you don’t apply logic, speed up the narration, and can live with the repetition (ugh, all the times Eli wallows in guilt over failing to protect her), this has moments of YA pulpy goodness.
Book 2 and 3 struggle with pacing. I was frustrated by how much occurs off screen (like being told in book 2 that two supporting characters died rather than actually showing the scene). I also felt like none of the victories were earned; there wasn’t planning so much as fortuitous events. Not sure I’d recommend this as a purchase, but it was fine for free.
Serviceable part one
