Publisher's summary

Brilliant geneticist Newton McEwen, the only human in a family of werewolves, has devoted his life to researching the scientific key to shifter magic. Now, he's being blackmailed, and his life's work is threatened if he can't produce results.

Alpha werewolf Colin Kimball is a newly-minted pack leader with a mountain of responsibilities, but when his lifelong best friend tells him he needs help, Colin drops everything to run to his aid. But Newt's not just looking for a brawny bodyguard to watch his back - he needs help with an experiment, one he can't carry out alone.

Out of academically approved methods, and desperate to accelerate his research, Newt's trying a last-ditch approach, with himself as the test subject. And the very alpha Colin as the catalyst.

Determined to succeed, Newt's willing to get up close and personal with Colin as many times as it takes. Only feelings weren't a variable logic-minded Newt took into account. Now not only is Newt's career on the line, his most important relationship is at stake. Can they outwit Newt's blackmailer and move on from their experimentation...or will they lose the friendship that means everything to them?

Contains mature themes.

Nerdy scientist and hunky alpha bestie

This story is about the new pack leader of the rival pack. I was slightly dismayed that the story took place entirely at a college campus of the best friend. It is as stand-alone as one can get in a series. The story is interesting, although a little predictable- scientist decides to run a series of experiments on himself that requires his best friend to join in willingly. It puts the relationship in a tough spot. There is a bad guy, some plotting, and general angst along the way. I was expecting more pack interaction, but there is zero pack interaction and barely any family interaction in this story. It was decent as a stand-alone, but it was definitely not what I was expecting from the fourth in a series about the Armitage pack.

One of my faves

This is one of my fave audiobooks, definitely my fave of the series. Newt is so oblivious about a lot of things, especially anything to do with love. His experiment to unlock his shifter genes leads to some super hot predator-prey kink scenes. Really, all the sex scenes are super hot. This narrator isn’t a favorite of mine but I don’t hate him either and he does a pretty good job overall.

It's a good continuing story.

it's a gay romance novel so sex happens a lot between guys.

Best friends fall for each other, and work through their issues. The original review I read was kinda off based, so I'm glad I ignored it. if you have read the books before this one in the series you won't be disappointed. The guys have quite a bit of baggage to unload as per usual and and so many emotions.

I wish I could comment on reviews so people get accurate reviews. The only other review listed a bunch of nonsense that if they paid attention they would either have the reason or would have already known the reason from the previous books. ...It's a freaking romance book why would you read it if you dont like sex being over the top? Welcome to romance novels It's mental porn.

This series is for women who want to fetishize

Idk what I was thinking going into this book. I knew it was a 'best friends fall in love with each other' scenario, and at first glance I was like okay that could definitely happen, and purchased the book. Then the story started to form and I realized that I had stupidly purchased a 'gay for you' book. Mistaaaaaaaakes were made. Other than the MC recognizing that his best friend was 'hot' to women (not men), there was no romantic or sexual attraction between the two. His friend apparently has been in love with him since they met each other in middle school or something, but they're both straight, so how could this be? Could a straight man fall in love with his best friend? Sure. Asexual biromantic? Sure. You'll find nothing like that in this book. His bf has had male sexual partners in the past but that's because men can't help themselves. Normally I don't leave negative reviews or comments, especially for independent authors, but this book is very much written by a straight woman, who by the way, doesn't believe in safe sex between two men that are sexually active with other people, and isn't queer or lgbt or anything like that. It's not for queer men. It's not meant to further stories between two consenting queer men. It feels like fanfiction. It feels like yaoi. I don't even care that it was a monster f***** book, that the dudes seemed to be able to just c** on command, that there was apparently a gallon of j** in the werewolf's balls, that apparently the prostate is a magical bean inside a man's body. This was a true disappointment and a waste of a credit. Exploitative. I felt like I had to keep reading it because I'd spent money on it. Smh.
