Publisher's summary

Fountain of Youth, or Valley of Death? While eating his supper of microwave popcorn, PhD student-genius Salinger Jacobs is grabbed from his apartment in California, stuck on a C-130 military plane, and sent to the Sahara Desert to witness the reality of the ZOO for himself.

With the life expectancy of untrained scientists working inside the ZOO measured in hours, he has a lot to learn. Fast. First order of business? How do you shoot a gun, and just how much is that plant worth? The government needs the best of the best military and scientific minds working out how to pull the secrets from the ZOO, while keeping the deadly fauna and flora in check.

There is one major problem, Salinger doesn't even have a PhD. If he can stay alive long enough, he might be able to afford something besides packaged microwave popcorn to eat. That is a big if.

Fun book

Aduly part caught me off guard but not so steamy as to be a romance novel. I'll be buying the next in series thank you.

Pity The Geek

Starts very fast as the hero goes through the story. Yes he (Salanger or Sal) is a fun character that we get to watch learn all about responsibility.
Two scenes were a little sexually graphic for my taste. If that bothers you do the 30 second skip forward thing.
Still I'm hooked on the series and after this review will be purchasing book two of The Birth Of Heavy Metal.

Great series

I enjoyed the series. More so because of Salinger Jacobs. One pet peeve I have for many of the Anderle books is that it’s mostly female as the main character. I like a strong female character book but it seems like it’s 90% that way in all the books.

impressive new series

I found myself rather enjoying this story. The relationship between Maddy and Sal works well for them. of course I am a sucker for a bad@ss heroine, and she probably looks killer in a uniform.

Great start to a series

This is definitely a book that you need to suspend reality to enjoy, but the main characters and writing style make it worthwhile. A strong female soldier helps a young geeky genius come into his own in an earth-based alien battlefield. The story is endearing and fun. I would have liked to see a few additional plot points expanded upon, but hopefully they will be in the next book of the series.

Great!

To me this one of the better series Michael has written. The audiobook version of this series is one of the best out there. Plenty of action, the characters are vibrant and well fleshed out. I have been pushing for this series on audiobook for over a year now. I’m going back and re-reading the series and realizing just how good it is.

Utter insanity

I would rather sit in a cell let me put in a life and death situation against my will.

She peer pressured him by saying come on sign it so we can get breakfast.

The Ryder is a goddamn lunatic if he thinks that's even remotely reasonable.

I would have shot those guys that broke into my house. This is ridiculous.

If you're going to kidnap the guy, just kidnapping don't play it like it's somehow semi-legal.

Put hey gundu is head and say do it or die. I can't accept that, I can't accept that he just went with it. For a self-proclaimed genius, that's monumentally stupid.
