Publisher's summary

What's a bigger disaster than being stranded on an ice planet with a bunch of aliens, never to return home? Resonating to the biggest jerk of all those aliens, of course. I hate M'tok, and it seems to be mutual. He thinks I'm ugly and unpleasant, and doesn't understand why I don't just fling myself at him. In his eyes, resonance has decided, and that's that.

Problem is, resonance keeps pushing us together. And when that doesn't make me jump into his furs...he steals me away from the camp. I can't avoid him if there's nowhere to go.

I want to hate him even more for that. But I keep finding out that M'tok isn't who I thought he was. And the man I hate? Doesn't hate me at all...

Contains mature themes.

love this series

I really like how you hear about the others from previous books and you hear how they are all doing.

Callie and M’tok.

I love that Callie is a Harry Potter fan and assigns everyone a house. This is one of the funnier books of the series. Recommend listening in order starting with the Ice Planet Barbarian series. Got the series with my Kindle Unlimited and was able to purchase this for the Whispersync price. Narrators are great, I do tend to use speed 1.25x, just because I have so many books to read and it doesn’t ruin the narration.

Bit of a 180

Overall this was a good story, but there is deception, and drugged kidnapping. It is important to note that nothing bad happens, but I can understand how this could be a trigger for anyone that was incapacitated against their will.

Aside from that, the rest of the trickery is not far from what I've witnessed others trying to woo partners do - getting "lost" or acting helpless at a task. I can't count the number of times I've watch people fall over someone or need help figuring out how to boil water. So none of this in the book bothered me. I just didn't expect Callie to do a 180 on her feelings so fast which was the only part I thought was weak. Would still recommend it and it sets up the next book nicely.

Chapter 5: it's difficult to feel bad for the FMC when she complains that the MMC only wants to talk to her about resonance and has no idea why she wouldn't just want to jump into bed with him when she has made ZERO attempts to have an adult conversation with him to explain her feelings. The MMC has been trying to talk to her and all she does is get mad at him and she doesn't attempt to explain anything.

At this point, she is WELL AWARE that the aliens think differently than humans and she should know that he doesn't understand why she won't just accept resonance. He already expressed he would never try to force her, so she knows he doesn't believe it should happen against her will. I feel like the hostility between them is 100 percent her fault, at this point, and she's not even trying to be reasonable. I don't think she should just be happy to jump into bed with an alien stranger, but I DO think she should communicate with him like a mature adult. Resonance isn't just going to go away so it makes no sense to be hostile toward him.

Chapter 8: So, first we have the FMC assault the MMC by slapping his genitals and now we have the MMC drugging the FMC so he can kidnap her? And I'm supposed to like either of these characters? I hope both are redeemed before the end of this story.

Okay, now that I've finished this book, I have a different perspective on this story than I did at the beginning. The description for this book should make it clear the MMC is morally gray. I like books featuring morally gray heroes but I like the know that's what I'm reading when I start the story because I view the story differently. This MMC is manipulative, cunning and deceptive to get what he wants.

Overall, I give this story 3.5 stars. I don't mind the morally gray hero and the FMC is a strong character that holds her own against him. I deduct 1.5 stars for the miscommunication trope because both characters should have realized that misunderstandings were inevitable and they should have tried harder to communicate clearly to each other.

I wasn't sure at first but I love it.

At the beginning I wasn't sure I will like it because of Cali's arguing personality but by page 15 I was in. Their personalities are headstrong but they find a common ground even if it is revenge in wish their love will grow.

Love Ruby Story so much

I absolutely love Ruby Dixon writing. I pre-order everything I can. If you are someone who likes playful and funny stories with hotly written sex scenes this is it. I feel happy after reading her stories and this brings positivity to my life.

Oh the cruelty!

Ruby you are so wrong for ending this like that. Now I will be in a terrible book slump until I get my hands on the next book! Loved this one by the way.

Caliente Callie!

“Okay, for that he can live.”
This is an enemies to lovers romance, but in the Icehome world this still means consensual. So, even though there’s trickery and abduction, it’s done in a cute and comedic fashion, such as Callie being a HarryPotter fan and being determined to be the clever Ravenclaw to his deceitful Slitherin.

“It’s almost like fate wants M’Tok’s balls chopped off.”
On the fun side, Callie is a fiesty Cuban, dropping F bombs and Cuban swear words as she resists resonance with M’Tok. Is it weird that I found the F bombs crass but the Latin bombs sexy?

On the less fun side, because this is an abduction plot, the majority of the book is just the two of them. This makes for a duller book. Also, for all their clashing, this is a slow burn to get to the point of accepting resonance. While I prefer the stories that are front loaded with humor, action, and heat, this one was still a pretty good listen.

Callie’s catastrophe

This is one of Ruby Dixon‘s series of Ice Planet Barbarians. Acute, sweet Storey residence.
