Publisher's summary

On the same day I lose my job, my house, and all hope for the future, I also lose my journal. And the worst part . . . the most awful, can't-bring-myself-to-say-it-out-loud part is . . . .

He found it. He read it. And . . . he commented.

At the end of his message is an email address and a plea: Contact me. Please. I know better than to trust strangers with candy, but, after a tequila-fueled night, I create a new email address and do just that . . . and the man I discover is overflowing with kindness and humor and depth.

Meanwhile, I meet Lucas Hutton - a Marine with scars covering his body, heart, and soul. The chemistry between us is a force of nature. His intensity leaves me reeling.

I can't have them both. I have to choose between them before things go too far. I just don't know how I can.

An Enjoyable Romcom

A classic romcom plot, charmingly done. Enjoyable escapism. Brandon Utah did an excellent job narrating. I found Heather Costa's voice to be nasal and whiny. If it had been her narrating on the sample, I wouldn't have gotten the audiobook.

I’M BEYOND WORDS.. well nearly :)

This was my first from Abby Brooks.. but it definitely won’t be my last because this was such a sweet and touching love story that grabbed my interest from the start and kept me riveted. She lost her journal.. he found her journal.. it was a private outpouring of her deepest inner thoughts and musings.. it was his insight into her beautiful soul. His guilt, passion, promises and email address left on a blank page of the recently reclaimed journal was his way of trying to tentatively reach out and connect soul-to-soul.. and her forgiveness and inner strength will eventually lead to more. However, they hadn’t met in person and only used nicknames while emailing each other their thoughts, secrets and emotions.. meanwhile life happens and they each meet someone else, someone who truly connects with them, someone who is pulling them in very different directions. As feelings grow decisions must be made, torn between.. head or heart?.. here or there?.. known or unknown? a beloved face or a faceless fantasy? Kismet or Karma?.. and behind the scenes Fate and Destiny are stirring the pot with impish glee.

Worth a credit? Yes definitely.. even if it’s been done before and was a wee bit predictable. This love story had a nice pace to the build-up, it was a slow burn of a plot with intense chemistry and good backstories. The writing was sometimes thought provoking, heartfelt, touching and passionate.. with low angst, some humor, a splash or two of sex and lots of feels. The ex Navy Seal hero was damaged yet loving, generous, genuine and family oriented - the heroine was getting over a bitter breakup yet remained positive, caring, open and kind. It also seamlessly introduces you to all the members of the Hutton family, it’s dynamics and it’s many siblings who will all (hopefully) find their own HEA. The dual POV narration by Heather and Brandon was good.

It was cute

The anonymity went on for a little too long for me. Pen pals meet in real life and hit it off...only they don't know they're each other's pen pal and feel bad for falling for this person in real life.

It just hinged on the moment of them possibly finding out and close calls for 30 chapters of this 40 chapter book. Most of the early chapters were full of platitudes, metaphors, similes, poetry type wording, etc.

Things got better/normal after they figured out who the other was...it turned cute but wasn't a homerun for me by then.

Beyond words…

As the name implies, I’m beyond words. Ok I have to read email for work all day and this one was mostly that. Thats enough for me to not finish. There’s no connection between the main characters. I’m more than half way done with this story. The main characters still didn’t connect except email. I got this on sale. Not worth credit or full price.

Good old fashioned romance.

The idea of two people meeting and communicating without seeing each other is refreshing. A slow bun romantic book where the hero and the heroine have excellent chemistry and it’s all done through emails. Beyond Words is a different story, in today’s society where people are so busy taking selfies and so quick to judge each other based on their appearance, it’s nice to see two people fall in love with what is on the inside not on the surface.
