Narrated by Cassandra Campbell, the narrator for Gillian Flynn's Dark Places and John Grisham's The Whistler

From New York Times bestselling suspense author Terri Blackstock comes a gripping, emotionally charged thriller about addiction, motherhood, and how far one woman will go to save her child. Blending high-stakes suspense with compassionate insight into substance abuse, Intervention launches a powerful series where faith and fear collide.

In the wake of Barbara's husband's death, her eighteen-year-old daughter Emily has developed a severe addiction to drugs, and Barbara is afraid her son Logan will pursue the same path. In desperation to save her daughter, Barbara enrolls Emily in a rehab program, complete with an intervention agent scheduled to securely escort Emily to the facility.

Emily and the agent set off for Georgia, but when the interventionist is murdered in the parking garage of the Atlanta airport and Emily disappears into thin air, Emily becomes the prime suspect. Convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that her daughter is innocent, Barbara and her son race to Atlanta to try to find Emily before Detective Kent Harlan arrests her for the murder.

Detective Kent has questions of his own. His gut tells him that this is a case of an addict killing for drugs, but as he gets to know Barbara, he begins to hope he’s wrong about Emily. Fearing for Emily's life, Barbara maintains her daughter's innocence. But does she really even know her daughter anymore?

The panic level rises as the mysteries intensify: Did Emily's obsession with drugs lead her to commit murder--or is she another victim of a cold-blooded killer?

Fast-paced, deeply human, and unflinchingly honest, Intervention is a riveting start to Terri Blackstock's acclaimed Intervention series (Intervention, Vicious Cycle, and Downfall). Perfect for readers who want suspense with substance, this novel will keep you turning pages while grappling with real-world issues of addiction, faith, and redemption. Includes discussion questions for book clubs.

The characters were well rounded. It showed how far a mother's love for her child wpuld go to do what's right no matter how hard and the lengths a mother go to protect her children. Another excellent book by Terri Blackstock!

If you could sum up Intervention in three words, what would they be?

Timely, powerful, and insightful.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. The topic itself is very emotional in nature and the author managed to create a tense story arc with judiciously spaced smaller dramatic moments.

Which character – as performed by Cassandra Campbell – was your favorite?

Detective Kent. His personal back story and journey gave depth to his impact on the story. Blackstock portrayed him as a kind but real character who was often frustrated by the protagonist.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It certainly had my attention but was too long for one sitting. I was, however, glad to get back to it whenever I had the opportunity.

Any additional comments?

The author's personal story at the end deepened the authenticity of the story. Having dealt personally with some of the issues it was as if Ms. Blackstock was a friend coming alongside us in our journey.

Timely and powerful

It had all the bells and whistles to be a good well rounded book but a bit to predictable from the beginning. I do want to see what comes next.

Well written but predictable
